With less than a month to go in Germanys election campaign, third place has become the most sought-after prize.

Chancellor Merkel's bifurcated Christian Democrat Party / Christian Social Union is far out in front. But, its projected vote combined with that of the Free Democratic Party now falls several points short of 48, which is about the minimum for them to form a majority coalition in the Bundestag.
Merkel rules out any deal with the euroskeptic/anti-immigrant Alternative Party.
The article says that CDP/CSU will be forced into a shotgun wedding with its current junior partner, the Social Democratic Party. The whole of the CDP/CSU, the article implies, has turned into the equivalent of RINOs.
If the recent polls are correct, I would strongly recommend Merkel attempt to form a minority government with the FDP, and not continue with current arrangement with the SDP. See what the members of the Bundestag, in secret ballot, will vote for.
Otherwise, Merkel's long tenure as Chancellor may end up as efficiency without direction.
How is she ahead? I just don’t get it, she’s destroyed Germany.
Merkel should be in prison for high treason for the rest of her miserable life for willfully flooding the country with Mohammadan rapists and murderers.
Todeswunsch (Deathwish)
The script by the five primary political parties...is a Merkel-written script. Doesn’t matter if you represent SPD, Linke Party, Greens, or FDP.
You could vote AfD, but they are running the campaign with a single-issue platform (doesn’t help) and some of the party members just aren’t that capable or competent.
If you ask the general public about topics....typically safety (more cops), immigration, diesel cars, and high taxes come up. This election is avoiding discussions on immigration and the diesel car situation is kept to a limit. Everyone (oddly) agrees on more cops (15,000 to be hired within two years).
The Merkel-script is locked into place until she retires (now likely with the 2021 election).
OMG Germany is dead. The land which I love, the land of my forefathers.
A big thank you to my great Grandfather for leaving that hell hole in the 1880’s.
“How is she ahead? I just dont get it, shes destroyed Germany.”
Huge Budget Surplus
Minuscule debt
labor shortage
good factory jobs plentiful
middle class wages increasing
6 weeks paid vacation minimum
yup - 12 years of Merkel sure wrecked the place
“How is she ahead? I just dont get it, shes destroyed Germany.”
Germans are good followers.
>How is she ahead? I just dont get it, shes destroyed Germany.
She also made Germany the defacto ruler of most Europe. That’s a big status boost and people like that. European time preferences are very short today and they’re not thinking about the long term disaster she’s bringing.
LOL
I know Germany rather well and you are sooo wrong
It is very common for people who know a lot about a subject to have liberal views about it.
Merkel should be in prison for high treason for the rest of her miserable life for willfully flooding the country with Mohammadan rapists and murderers.
I am living near Stuttgart. From what I have seen, Frau Merkel (and the CDU) are viewed by a plurality (if not a majority) of Germans as the key provider of stability and economic prosperity for Germany. The immigration issue, as of now, does not get enough traction to hinder her prospects.
The other main parties the Social Democrats (SPD) and Greens are leftist/collectivist parties that want to throw the door open even further (along with an even larger welfare state).
It doesn't help that AfD has contributed to their own marginalization. Poor candidate selection and the Germans' real skittishness on racial/ethnic issues have hindered the AfD attempts to breakthrough into the mainstream. They are not seen, even by a lot of people who agree with them on immigration, as a serious, legitimate, party.
The best we can hope for is a coalition between Merkel's CDU/CSU(which is a Bavaria only party) and the Free Democrats (FDP). That party is more skeptical on immigration issues and may moderate Merkel. However they have been only a marginal performer over the last few elections and did not have a seat in the last Bundestag.
I’m in Stuttgart...don’t see any AfD election posters along the streets...CDU/CSU/FDP/Greens/Linke/weird left fringe...I hear the AfD posters are destroyed by the rabid left Antifa scum within hours.
Just appalling. I’ve never seen such a group of peoples in Europe so cowed and indoctrinated into committing national suicide by bringing in groups of people who have no intention of assimilating and every intention of destroying said countries entirely.
My favorite is the one for the Marxistisch-Leninistische Partei Deutschlands I saw in Ecterdingen. It proudly displayed a picture of Lenin and a call for revolution. It was almost quaint. I may take it as a souvenir after the election.
As for the AfD, their internal infighting and unforced errors by candidates have compounded the hostility from the media and establishment. Instead of unifying and pitching a coherent and appealing message, they backstab each other and played into the establishment’s attempts to marginalize them.
They need to cut the crap out an focus on winning votes. We’ll see how they do this time out, but I don’t see them getting the 5% threshold for a party seat in the Bundestag.
Ah, that’s what MLPD stands for...I’ve seen a few of their revolution posters but never looked to closely.
I agree with your take on the AfD. Why oh why must they do that?
PS: I see reports placing the AfD around 10%...?
Here’s at least one AfD candidate being sensible and calling for Merkel’s prosecution:
