Administrators at The Evergreen State College have announced that the embattled school faces a massive $2.1 million budget shortfall due in part to a drop in enrollment, and the institution has already handed out some temporary layoff notices as officials grapple with balancing the books.

If not for the leadership of Fr. Robert Spitzer, and the rise of the basketball team, Gonzaga University would be encountering the same issues. Things were tough back when I was there in the 70s.

Over the past 20 years, undergraduate enrollment has more than doubled to 5500, and the endowment is approaching $250 million. I hardly recognized the campus when I visited last month. What really shocked me were the positive remarks from the students on the quality of the cafeteria food. Lol

My 15YO son and 7YO grandson both want to go there, such was the impression made on them during our visit. My son spent his time there in a basketball camp, lived in a dorm for three days. Gave him a taste of college life. My grandson stayed with us, and joined me while we walked around campus, and followed the goings at camp.

I can't say enough about the Zag players that were there. They were so friendly and approachable, it was a big thrill for him. He took advantage of the time, playing hoops on the floor of the Kennel with a few players.

When camp ended, 8-10 players were there, signing autographs for about two hours...apologies for the thread hijack.

Just another example of government run “education” throwing money away. A degree is only as good as the reputation of the institution that issued it. A degree from Evergreen has long been a worthless document outside of government service.

Time to hit up the wealthy graduates in La-la town.

OK, MIchael Richards may not be the best person to beg from.

How about Macklemore (#1 cultural appropriator (”Rapper”) of the decade? Matt Groening (creator of the Simpsons) ? Sleater-Kinney band members? Steve Thomas (the guy who took over Bob Villa’s This Old House)? And Craig Bartlett, whose “Hey Arnold” and “Dinosaur Train” should be investigated as war crimes?

there is even a statue dedicated in her honor
I've seen it - in a glass case indoors, it's a pyramid with a dove impaled on top - maybe two feet tall.

“Out-of-state students who don’t have Washington residence can expect a one year cost of $37,312.”

Granted, a lot of people are stupid. But, not everyone ins a complete moron.

Maybe they should have thought the social justice warrior thing through a little more carefully.

“Evergreen... the only state four-year higher education institution to see enrollment drop steeply since 2011 despite wide-open admission standards”

Not “despite” but BECAUSE of wide-open admission standards. And apparently they have zero academic standards for the faculty as well. (though I’m sure they have political standards).

Also, a LOT of people got into website development back in the 1990s, back when it was all HTML and maybe some CSS, and moved into very good-paying jobs, where they continued to develop their skills in PHP, JavaScript, Python, etc., so they now make very good money.

You MIGHT still find some job listings where work experience in PHP, JavaScript, Python, etc., can substitute for a formal education. Well, probably not... but you might be able to talk your way into an interview. The wink-wink is to say that a B.S. in Computer Science is required, OR equivalent skills. But whereas anyone with a web browser could teach themselves HTML and CSS, good luck teaching yourself a marketable programming language with no previous formal education in it.

It’s VERY possible. I’m a programmer whose B.S. is in Biology education. (I eventually got a Master’s in Info Sys) But how-to-program books usually presume someone is providing you with a programming environment. What you need to know before you can start programming is very minimal, but there’s very little out there to teach it. As I was shifting from HTML/CSS/Access to real programming languages, I vowed to write such a book, but haven’t yet. Oops.

Matt Groening graduated from there? That explains a lot about how left-wing the Simpsons have become.

Their enrollment could be up 500% if they wanted, just keep handing out scholarships to underqualified and financially incapable students. But they screwed the pooch as parents are finally figuring out that paying tuition for their own kid and several others is theft (not to mention the curriculum).

Univ of VA is about to feel this dynamic: the Washington Compost FOIA’d the admissions office and supposedly exposed admissions favoritism to donors. So UVA admissions are going entirely “neutral” which means they will lose the financial support that has propped up their pyramid scheme.

College tuition is nothing but a tax to fund social engineering, at best, and more likely a Madoff scheme.

Misleading post. There is no market for stenography in medicine. It’s all computer dictation.

Actually, you may have been misled because you mis-read what I posted, which was about medical sonography, not stenography.

Sonography is a non-invasive medical procedure that uses the echoes of high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to construct an image (sonogram) of internal organs or body structures, not about taking dictation.

On the other hand, the figures I provided may have been a bit outdated, and are probably somewhat higher today. My point, however is that learning a trade may be a better choice than a paying for a useless college degree.
