To state the obvious, nobody supports DUI but DUI became another nice little earner especially with all the feeder programs ie cronies got big bucks to run ‘diversion programs’ which consisted of weekend day camps in which offender promised over and over never to do it again (see also: 1984, A Clockwork Orange).

Then there are the ‘Governors’ Highway Safety Programs’ which, in the usual official doubletalk, has nothing to do with (state) governors. Instead, it’s the feds telling local PDs they will pay for all overtime in a given weekend but only for DUI enforcement. Victims of burglaries, rapes, murders, assaults, etc. can go and whistle.

A lawyer friend who would know says that widespread uptake of Uber has reduced DUIs by 16%. On one hand it’s possible to say ‘that’s not enough’ but we are talking almost 1/5 of arrests. Think about the impact on municipal finances when astronomical fines made astronomical via the usual means of inducing a moral panic disappear along with the ‘DUI school’ referenced above. Demographically, the ones using Uber are the big fish ie the ones who can and will pay handsomely to get their charges reduced. People see some dirtbag arrested for 8th or 9th DUIs and wonder how it can happen. It can happen when the offender lacks the means to pay any fine and when jails are full. They can’t keep him locked up and they can’t watch him round the clock so he drinks and drives again. But there’s no money in his arrest(s).

Mmmmm Sounds good to me, at least the thugs in jail.

Seems to me that as soon as they start trying to actually enforce the law as written the media and activists get their panties in a wad. I’d like to see the blac-block punks jailed.

“I’d like to see the blac-block punks jailed.”

Last summer, Obuma sent one of the big chiefs at BLM down to South Carolina to start a riot. The cops arrested him for attempted murder. He’s facing 10 to 15 years in state prison.

The hardware needs to be auctioned to American citizens first, then if anything is left over, government agencies can have a separate auction for it. Police have no need for the vast majority of this stuff, though the national guard may want some of it.

What is the difference between a law enforcement officer operating a HumVee vs a patrol car, except the HumVee is inherently safer.

IN your particular example, it is simply a silly waste of resources. Police don't need a humvee. At most a suburbun will work for the job at hand. MRAPS and such may well be bright, shiny toys, but they are expensive to maintain and operate. It is a serious waste of taxpayer resources, and complete overkill for any legitimate task that the police might have on hand.

Careful you don’t fall over from all of that spinning!

The time is coming when they will need the protection - antifa and others want to kill them and the tide is turning as even the Dems realize that they can’t give antifa terrorists full-court protection/defense.
