And now we face the final test: the debt ceiling. Will we or wont we stop the spending madness? Will the Republicans enact the cuts theyve promised, or will they now be the ones to kick the can, piling evermore trillions of dollars of debt on their own grandchildren?
By every indication thats precisely what they plan to do. The signal has come from President Trump, from Speaker Ryan, and from Majority Leader McConnell. The debt ceiling will be raised and no fiscal sanity will be restored.
There is no difference between Republicans and Democrats. Put them together. They are the swamp.
Just as Republicans have the power to enact the agenda theyve pledged in toto, so too do they now own the federal government, in toto. Its no longer Obamacare. Its GOPcare. Its no longer crazy liberal Democratic spending. Its crazy liberal Republican spending. Its no longer socialist Democratic Party taxation, its socialist Republican Party taxation. All the legislation authorizing all these programs, all the graft, all the waste, all the obscenity, all the immorality, and where Planned Parenthood is concerned, all the killing all of it is now formally authored by the Republican Party.
Come the Congressional elections next year, and the presidential election in 2020, the Grand Old Party will once again bellow its hallowed promises. But this time it wont work. This time there will be no straw men to blame. This time their voters will know those hallowed promises are not even hollow promises. They are lies.
These voters are tasting betrayal. They will not vote to swallow more vomit.
We are watching the GOP systematically committing suicide.

I had an RNC person call up for donations the other day. She started with the wholly disingenuous and laughable line of bull that the RNC was helping Trump to get his agenda through.
Instead of just hanging up as I had done in the past, I spent a good 15 minutes telling her how the RNC was working hand and hand with the Dems, and how they are undermining Trump and the primary candidates that support Trump.
She at least listened. My hope is that the person will tell others and at least demoralize RNC workers.
The Debt Ceiling is nothing but an opportunity for the Democrats to trot out the usual Victims and have their DNC Water Carrying Media buddies attack any Republican who utters the words Fiscal Responsibility.
Get rid of it and push for a Constitutional Amendment requiring a Balanced Budget with the only exception to running a Deficit being involved in a Declared War.
Isn’t it funny how our side supposedly controls both Houses of Congress and the White House and we are still playing defense? It just tells you who really controls the Message.
You know, funny like a Clown, the Clown in the Movie “IT”.
I too was laid off after 15 years and agree the economy isn’t getting better it is being uplifted through job cuts, record profits due to said job cuts and then leadership “talking up” the state of the economy. The so called strength is fake and will be uncovered soon enough. Make no mistake this supposed recovery is smoke and mirrors. But I’m certain there will be cheerleaders come right along to correct you and I.
Way to slow for this former Republican and now Independent considering Libertarian party. Tore up my R card in 2006 when Bush gave the Congress to Piglosi and Reid, which ushered in the age of Baraq Insane and TRANSFORMATION OF AMERICA into what we now see.
Let’s be fair about this though. Both parties have far reaching issues. This last election you saw disjointed realignment. That is the best way to describe it. It is a difficult path forward politically.
Worst 2 years for my 12 year old company selling machines to manufacturing companies. Why invest in your manufacturing company when you can get a better return on Fraud Street? The money is not circulating throughout the economy. 9 years of the money going to government and Fraud Street. Also read that in NH that:
Census data showed companies with 250 to 499 employees added 10.3 percent more jobs between the second quarter of 2011 and a similar period in 2016. Firms with at least 500 employees grew by 9.9 percent compared to 8.1 percent for all size firms.
The slowest job growth occurred in companies with 19 or fewer workers, with a more modest 4.1 percent.
I once pledged a donation over the phone but said I needed something in writing first. I never followed up with the donation so they called wondering why I didn’t honor my pledge. I said “so, you don’t like being lied to either”? Click
The OLD Republican party ceased to exist last November. It was acquired in a hostile takeover by Donald J. Trump and is being reformed by his hands. There may be some kind of sludge left over that the NeverTrumpers can call the GOP but the old one is already dead.
Railroads are not dying.
BNSF is hiring.
I’m guessing you don’t know much about the railroad and what all it actually delivers. Can’t pipeline everything everywhere, sure as hell can’t truck the volume the railroad moves for the cost it moves it. It’s not just stuff we consume in America, we are shipping coal, grain etc., to other countries and moving it to ports by rail.
There are companies that are shrinking and companies that are more adaptable to the market that are growing again.
Having said that, railroading is not an easy job. In fact, I would prefer working at almost any other job than the railroad, but no one wants to pay me what the railroad pays for my education level(that doesn’t involve going overseas)
The RNC needs to be wiped clean and replaced with Limited Government types. Period.
The problem with a Constitutional Amendment for a Balanced Budget is, without it coupled with a spending cap. Congress will keep spending until tax rates are confiscatory. (If the states are a laboratory on this, they are already are confiscatory in some states!). The right way to do it is do a Balanced Budget Amendment with spending capped at 20% or less GNP, then to spend more the economy must grow more.
The key is entitlements get control of them. Soon they will be the entire federal budget. I know its popular to bash Ryan here, but he is the only one who has made a proposal to reel in entitlements. He is a weasel about other things but he is right here. (His proposal needs a lot of work but at least he made it!) To get it done everyone’s ox has to get gored, including, veterans, seniors, women & children, etc. Everyone loves entitlements because everyone gets their turn at the federal trough! That’s why they are so hard to control. It also shows that there is a little entitled socialist in us all ! Watch all the FR’ers jump to tell me I am wrong and defend entitlements! (And if you think social security is not an entitlement, look up Ida Mae Fuller! See how much she put into SS versus how much she took out. There have been 10s of thousands (more!) Ida Mae Fullers! Also remember what you put in while you were working went to those then retired. You get your SS from the next future worker demographic! It was purposely set up to leave “IOUs” imposed on the next generation of workers! Yes politicians & the FedGov has lied to you about this for 80+ years! )
Discretionary spending like defense or the FedGov operating expenses are not much of a problem. Not that we want to be wasteful, watch for that and take care of it. Claiming it all can be solved by cutting government waste or firing feds is a deflection - a red herring. It puts a bad aid on a wound that isn’t there!
Other than rollback of regs which do help businesses, there's little else. Yet. But, with the energy sector leading the way, things will boom if congress gets off their arse.
yep. bozell was one of the original anti-trumpers:
_______________
Yes, we have their published names to prove it. Bozell and company continue to play the shifty, lying game, foolishly hoping we have short memories.
Mr President,
How much DEBT did you saddle your children with as you built your Empire??
A Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution means diddly squat and is totally useless as long as Congress can Create A Fictitious Bank and then give it the Authority to Create Money out of thin air and LOAN it to the Government.
Maybe if we dusted off Article 1, section 8 and Article 1, section 10 and began actually Following the US Constitution a silly Amendment wouldn’t be necessary.

brent is just figguring this out?
You are wrong. The Constitution doesn’t need a balanced budget amendment, or any other as far as I can see...
The runaway debt is caused by government doing things it has no constitutional authority to do.
