Pretty much everyone supported Arpaio in earlier years.
Phoenix was very crime ridden and he was elected to clean up the mess. Crime was so out of control no one was immune, the favored thing was attacking women and robbing them at malls. When it got to the point even wealthy women were being attacked outside upscale stores in broad daylight while shopping LE there said it was all but impossible to stop. Arpaio said he could and was elected to do that. He used retired LEO on horseback to patrol mall parking lots, along with traditional LE and he did end that crime wave pretty quickly.
I didn’t live in Arizona but had a close friend that lived there, she was happy Arpaio cracked down on crime and said she felt safer by far.
He was never really gentler, it is just that crime was so out there when he was elected no one cared then how he fixed it, they just wanted it fixed.
He had his share of detractors but people kept voting him in because they felt he was keeping a lid on Maricopa County crime and criminals.
The thing is when he went after illegals that is when he really caught the flack, and it was from organized radical groups like La Raza (changed their name recently to UnidosUS) but they were vocal. Anyone that makes a real attempt to deal with illegal immigration is in for a fight.
The USS John S Mcain need to be renamed. It is offensive to everyone that it shares the name of this degenerate.
Trump needs to pardon Mccain for starting the Forrestal fire.
