While the government can fire someone for something like that, and possibly withhold funding, generally that sounds like something that would be overturned with the first case.I think that's how it works. In places like NYC and CA they are never going to elect sane people, so the govt can hold the sword of legal costs and possibly conviction of an unconstitutional law over the few people who care about the Constitution.
