True. That said, this particular statue is on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus... I assume the college has the right to take it down.

Teaching the young mob rule works - - and that 'history' can be destroyed might be what the University wants to 'teach'.

A better choice might be for the University to put the issue to a student vote...after a month of public debates. Teach the kids to be responsible citizens rather than vandals...

Takiya Fatima Thompson, 22, was charged Tuesday with two felonies — participation in a riot with property damage in excess of $1,500 and inciting others to riot — and two misdemeanors — disorderly conduct by injury to a statue and damage to property, the sheriff’s office said. She was held on $10,000 bond.
On Wednesday, Dante Emmanuel Strobino, 35, Ngoc Loan Tran, 24, and Peter Gull Gilbert, 39, were arrested on the same charges, the sheriff’s office said. Additional arrests are expected, the office said.
In a statement, the Workers World Party said Thompson, a student at North Carolina Central University, was a member of the group “who climbed to the top of the statue to tie a rope around its neck before the crowd tore it down.” The above three members of the Workers World (Communist) Party were part of the local communist branch that surrounded and brought down the statue. More info forthcoming on additional arrests.

The Marxist YouTube channel, Democracy Now, lauded and interviewed Takiyah Thompson on the video
“Meet the College Student Who Pulled Down a Confederate Statue in Durham & Defied White Supremacy”
