Homelessness among women veterans is expected to increase at greater rates as more women in the military reintegrate into their communities following their military service, according to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. While women currently make up eight percent of the total veteran population and 14.6% of the active duty military, those figures are expected to increase to an estimated 16% by 2035.

Per Wikipedia, the final B29 (reclassified as a B-50, so she'd not have been working on B-29s, but that's a hair to split) was retired in 1965.

If she was 19 at that time, that makes her 71 years old. Minimum.

IF she *was* working on B29s - and I'd imagine that people who actually did the work on them would be precise about what they worked on, for instance, ask a former Marine what weapon they carried and the answer won't ever be "A M-something Gun" - B29's were reclassified in the mid-50's. Making her in her mid-80s.

Conclusion? She's lying. But, whatever. Newspapers lie, always.

My thoughts exactly.... CAF is the only outfit that’s flown the B-29 since when? Early 50’s?

From the article:

“Service members reported 6,172 cases of sexual assault in 2016 compared to 6,082 last year, an annual military report showed.
This was a sharp jump from 2012 when 3,604 cases were reported.”

“Taking up our shore duty slots.”

In the Air Force they also take up the day-shift desk duties, trainer positions, and other light weight positions. Men do the work.

I think a lot of that has to do with suppression. Back then it wasnt cool to admit it... I think now its more acceptable to say it and or talk about it...

Women should not serve in the military with men. There is a reason why men, and not women, have served in the military, throughout history.

A military dependent 110% on testosterone to win victory is not to be trusted around free radical estrogens.

It's a friggin' law of God or something !

Duty/Honor/Courage...

it seems to me that raping your fellow service members is NOT honor and frankly sounds like those idiotic excuses muzzies give... “sexual emergency”...

I agree with your point, but it is also true we live in a very high charged world.

I can't think of a single thing (except maybe sleep) that isn't more dynamic today than, sayyyy ... 20 or 30 years ago.

The only culture today that is mellow are the junkies about to die.

Moreover, women in the Air Force were not allowed to serve as aircraft maintenance specialists until the late 70s/early 80s. In the 1950s and 60s, her career choices (on the enlisted side) would have been clerk or medical services specialist.

Of course, there were thousands of women who worked in defense plants during World War II, including many who assembled B-29s for Boeing. But they were all civilians, and did not qualify for veteran status.

That's nothing compared to what happened a few years ago at Lackland.

NOBODY is excusing the bad behavior. NOBODY. It’s bad, very bad, behavior.
What some _are_ doing is recognizing that there _will_ be very bad behavior _by_a_few_, and sticking increasing numbers of healthy females into a concentrated group of strong raging-testosterone men just raises the odds that some will behave very badly. Duty/honor/courage are high-functioning cognitive matters; just realize how strong base impulses can be, and how increasing the opportunities for indulging them is a bad idea - this isn’t an excuse, it’s a guardrail (or observing the removal thereof).

Acknowledging violent crime happens, and that controllable circumstances can exacerbate it, is reasonable and does not condone it.

That’s a great question. We began to see a great number of women in the military once conscription was ended. That came with diminished height, weight and physical fitness standards for women. It also came with an eventual tolerance for pregnancy which at one time meant they were medically discharged. It is typically at this point that I list all of our GOP political families who don’t serve. The bottom line is that women serve because most of our young men are not willing to serve in uniform in any capacity.

Exactly, and if you raise the point that the gals are vulnerable and really don’t do well in sex integrated units your career is over.

It left, right after God, Family, Country. Same as every other institution like schools. If you open the door to evil, it will return.. and it will return exponentially.

male rape in the military is more common than folks realize.

It is often swept under the rug, and victims told to simply tough up.

Yup. Know a female vet who now has PTSD and we don’t know where she is after a NJ judge released her on her own instead of acknowledging mom’s power of attorney and getting her into the women’s program at a VA facility. So now she’s still on the streets. Been about 2 years.

Valid question that will never be truthfully answered. Those abused have finally gotten recognition and are permitted to apply for specified benefits no matter their discharge status and Cohen Veterans Network gives outpatient therapy for free around the nation.

No one has to be alone in that battle.
