Rand Paul Opposes Troop Surge: ‘Mission in Afghanistan Has Lost Its Purpose
Breitbart ^ | August 21, 2017 | Ben Kew

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) released a statement on Monday opposing any plan to add additional troops to the ground mission in Afghanistan, hours before President Donald Trump addresses the nation about his plans for the region.

“The mission in Afghanistan has lost its purpose, and I think it is a terrible idea to send any more troops into that war,” Paul said in a statement.

I agree. If they bring peace to Iraq, so be it. SA has spread death and destruction to our shores and beyond; vastly more than the Iranians.

No you need to understand that the Taliban are the indigenous people of Afghanistan. They don’t come from Libya or Somalia or Saudi Arabia. If you kill 1000 of them another 1000 just get recruited. So when the Afghan military kills Taliban they are killing Afghanis. Their heart just isn’t in it.

The President of Afghanistan controls Kabul and Jalalabad. The war lords control the hinterlands. Its a big patchwork. There are basically three job paths in the country at present. Grow opium, join the military or join the Taliban.

We are not going to wipe out the Taliban and we are not going to change Afghanistan.

We need to leave.

I see: so our two lady respondents think that all Aghanis are Taliban (and my extension, all Afghan women don’t want to go to school and prefer full-length burkas.

Yeah, OK, sure.

But I reiterate - when the Taliban were in control, they provided the training grounds and staging bases for al Qaeda. You two all ready for that bunch to resume operations?

That’s absurd. No one wants women to suffer.
But this is THEIR COUNTRY.

That was a joke when Bush said we were staying to help the women. They are not helped and it is the same as it ever was.

The Taliban ARE NOW in control ... of about 2/3 of the country. Not past tense, are now. That’s because they are the local leaders in a very undeveloped mostly rural country outside of Kabul. They are the people who live there. They are the leaders that emerge from any place that has people living in a place ... the people who come forward and lead or get in control.

Honestly, read something about the country. I is not really a nation in the sense that we think of nation. It is a collection of fiefdoms run by local ‘warlords’ or just local headmen. That’s because they live there, have lived there for centuries and have their own culture, history, ancestry (that they keep careful track of) etc.

None of the culture and internal leadership organization of Afghanistan relates to us in any way whatsoever. We went in and tried to put people in local power who were alien to the areas ... it didn’t work.

Enough already.

So - exactly when did the French “attenpt to sujegate Afghanistan”?

I suspect that you meant the British - but maybe not.

Need to study your history a bit more...

Sorry - your knowledge of military affairs or geopolitics - or lack of it - isn’t impressive. Need to return to what you know.

I heard a retired general tell us why on Varney this morning. Afghanistan is now a forward military base for that whole region. Centered between Iran Pakistan India China Russia. We are also allying with India as part of the plan. No nation building, just prevent the exportation of jihad from Afghanistan and project regional power. We will be there pretty much forever, as in Germany Japan and Korea according to the general (Ret).

A winning strategy if American lives and American money grew on trees. These empire builders seem to forget that there is a future to safeguard and conserve.

Guess Billy Clinton was in complete agreement with you: he was fine with ignoring Osama and his training bases and his supporting Taliban buddies and saving the money. Worked out great, didn't it?

Bet ya aren't really a Colonel - or even a corporal, are ya?

OK. Try to lose the emotional hysterics. First Afghan women rank one step lower than dogs on the power dynamic. It doesn’t matter what they want or don’t want. They sit in a corner and STFU.

All Afghanis are not Taliban but Taliban are Afghanis. They are all freaking related through the tribes. Its not America or Europe. They are a bunch of 7th century barbarians. They like it that way. We will never change things ever!

The only thing that will get rid of the Taliban is if the Afghanis decide to get rid of them.

We don’t have any friends in Afghanistan. US soldiers are being killed by the Afghan army, the ones they are supposed to be training.
There is no nation to build.
We can never pacify Afghanistan.

Alexander The Great could not subjugate Afghanistan. The French could not do it, the Russians who were vicious could not do it and we won’t do it. Its a losing proposition.

What she said.

Kind of silly to send your military half way around the world when your country is being invaded by unknown persons daily.
If we keep importing the poison of Islam, these foreign adventures will only serve to bankrupt us further and won’t matter.
