The position of the TEA Party was an existential threat to the army of bureaucrats in the IRS and really in every Federal agency. The bureaucrats were not going to lose their cushy Federal jobs with the nice house in northern VA, the pension that we can only dream of....But their behavior may force a change of French Revolution style; they may end up in line for the guillotine...or the Tea Party version thereof. Their choice; job cuts or neck cuts.
