More specifically, it was Freon 12 that if one remembers was the root cause for the ‘holes’ in the ozone layer. They already had 134A standing by and ready to go.

As a side note, if the stories of ozone ‘holes’ or more realistically thinning were to be checked out, it was always at the poles and always when a particular pole was in its cold season. The main ingredient for generating ozone is, UV rays from the sun. What is in short supply in the cold seasons for each pole?
