BOISE -- The Riverside Hotel canceled the Idaho Freedom Foundation's annual banquet, citing concerns for guest safety surrounding the keynote speaker. But the foundation says the left is trying to stifle free speech and ideas.
The "Faces of Freedom Banquet" was supposed to happen at the Riverside Hotel August 26. But after hearing of possible protests online - and in the wake of the violent incidents in Charlotesville - hotel owners told the conservative group that could no longer happen.
The Idaho Freedom Foundation touts conservative principles, limited government, free markets and self-reliance. Their stated mission is to "hold public servants and government programs accountable, expose government waste and cronyism, reduce the Idahos dependency on the federal government and inject fairness and predictability into the states tax system".
That's exactly why they asked libertarian scholar Dr. Charles Murray to be the guest speaker at their annual banquet.

I am disappointed that anyone in Idaho would back down because of threats from terrorists. I expected better from one of the most heavily-armed conservative states in the country.
At this point, it seems like the entire country has gone bat-spit crazy. I’m not sure anyone is going to fight for anything anymore.
“Hey, well, we are going to just surrender to those Japanese, because they say they are going to blow us up, and well we just can’t have that now, can we”
Yes, VERY disappointing. Idaho is slowly knuckling under from Coeur d’Alene to Twin Falls. Blaine County (Sun Valley & Ketchum) plus Boise (state capital) have strong leftist presence.
This is happening so much now that I am really getting frightened.
Where on earth will this all end?
.
Interesting how it’s only the conservative speakers being shut down. No protesters at or threats made to H. Clinton’s speech a week or so ago? Why wasn’t that shut down due to “fears for guest safety”?
Martin Luther King’s speech scheduled for this afternoon in downtown Birmingham has been canceled due to threat of possible violence and concerns for public safety.....
