Thousands filed into Newton Thursday afternoon for the 128th annual Soldiers Reunion Parade.
During the parade, Channel 9 saw that one man with a gun was taken into custody. Eyewitness News reporter Dave Faherty witnessed the incident and said the man went over to some Civil War re-enactors and pepper sprayed them.

Newton is on Hwy 16 which used to be part of the main route up to Appalachian University from Charlotte. Newton was a small little nothing town before I-40. Now, the best route is Hwy 321 out of Gastonia....bypasses Newton & Conover all together. Hwy 16 was just a very boring 2-lane highway...kind of dangerous. There are 3 accidents on 16 below Newton right now.
Not allowed to post anything from Fred Reed here, but he has some excellent posts about race relations at his fredoneverything.org site One in particular that was posted on June 15 or 17 (can’t remember which) spells it all out. Most blacks hate whites and other races, too, for that matter.
There’s a Little Pigs BBQ in Newton that is an old timey type joint with halfway decent BBQ.
