You stated:
“I have no desire to save Confederate statues or memorials. I couldnt care less about them. Its a little weird to have memorials to people who waged war against us anyway”.
“...people who waged war against US”???????
Us is we, we is them, they were us. This isn’t Nazi Germany declaring war on the USA. This is the CSA declaring war on the USA who already declared war on the CSA.
This is not about them and us, this is 100% us and that is why statues were built in honor of the other side of us.
Together after the war we were us again and not them and us as if it was an outside force.
So, get it straight, it was called Civil war for a reason.
The THEY did not attack US. WE attacked each other...
I remember on vacation with the Family around 1964 in TN near some Civil War history. I saw a poster of state flags and many flags of the south had the stars and bars on it.
In moment of childhood innocence I asked my dad why they were allowed to put that on their state flag, after all they lost and we are one USA now. He said, don’t know I guess they are proud of for some reason. I replied well I don’t see Germany or Japan’s flag today look like the one in WW2.
#9 - Yes, that line absolutely jumps off the page, in a gross way. For me it undermines any credibility the author has to speak of what’s going on. He clearly believes in too many of the Left’s memes.
Yes one of the most amazing things to look into is the reconciliation that happened after the war. When you begin to study it, it is easy to get caught up in the day to day issues with Reconstruction and get bogged down in the negative. When you look at the overall picture though it is astonishing how fast and far reconciliation took place. Are there scars? Of course there are scars, it was a horrific war on and off the battlefield. The Reconstruction was not a picnic either by any means and I am not trying to say it was.
Reconciliation however was astonishing. Of course there were bumps along the way but how amazing the country could come back together and function as a country. Boggles the mind.
This is what disturbs me, we now have idiots digging at those old scars- creating fresh wounds. Not for any good reason, but to further their agenda. They must be stopped.
So many of you say we don’t need those old statues anyway...now the left is talking about our founders...our past Presidents. Where does it end? That is the problem.
