Now what I really think happened is pretty close to the Russian double cross, but not quite. I doubt we will ever know the real story, but here is my version.
I think Obama got wind that the Ruskies might hack the election, but he kept quiet about it, assuming the Russians would go for Hillary being the candidate further to the left. But, just in case, the Democrats started talking about Russian hacking well before the election as a fall back in case the Russians decided to back Trump for some unexpected reason.
So if the Russians went for Hillary as expected, mum’s the word. If Trump won, well we saw what happened there, only it would have been more-better if they found actually found something.
But the underlying Democrat assumption was that Russia would hack something related to the election. The Democrats even went so far as to leak some of their own internal emails, which they figured to blame on Russia and add to the story.
Then Russia let them down and did nothing, probably figuring they would get blamed for it. The irony is that they did anyway, Trump was maneuvered into putting sanctions on Russia, ostensibly because of their interference in the election, but in reality for screwing up all the Democarp best laid plans by doing nothing.
