Former Sheriff Joe Arpaio asked late Monday for his contempt of court conviction to be tossed or to get a new trial, saying the judge misread the history of the case, that it amounted to double-jeopardy, and that his trial should have been in front of a jury anyway.
In two new filings in federal district court in Arizona, Arpaios lawyers offered up a number of reasons why the misdemeanor conviction should be tossed.
The filings came after President Trump said over the weekend that he is seriously considering granting a pardon to Arpaio, an early supporter of his presidential campaign.

The outcome of this appeal has nothing to do with the truth (in practice) but everything to do with the political ideology and animus of the judge hearing it.
Agreed. This is nothing but leftist political payback. The judge should be removed, fined, and brought up on charges of obstruction of justice and abusing her position of authority. Then a nice long sentence rendered which includes loss of any type of government pension and of course barred from practicing law in any state. Suspend the prison sentence and kick her out of Arizona. I hear Mexico is nice this time of year...
You’re exactly right in my view.
The 0bama administration was out to get Sheriff Arpaio and this was the outcome.
Nifong the “Judge”.
Sheriff Joe, is a political prisoner. Let him go so USA shows it is still on the side of the good guys.
It should be. He was trying to protect our country and enforcing the law.
Amen!
It’s a sad state of affairs when an LEO is persecuted for legally enforcing the law.
Who were those two Border Patrol guys — Ramos and Compean? They were punished for enforcing the law too. (Especially so because they’re Latinos.)
Yep, they shot a slime drug runner and were prosecuted for it, a total miscarriage of justice.
It was a kangaroo court. This nation is dissolving. We are becoming a turd-world nation.
Sheriff Arpaio has served in law enforcement for decades with distinction.
I believe his conviction should be thrown out but vehemently support a presidential pardon by President Trump.
