It’s about as bad as I expected. I remember when they were pushing Grant Show as the “next big thing” when he was on “Melrose Place”, but like so many of the other pretty boys, couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag. He comes off even worse in this. John Forsythe was commanding, Show wouldn’t have even made guest star status. The guy playing the major domo who was on “The O.C.” would’ve been a better choice (but give him a rug).
The actress playing Fallon has less charm and charisma (and looks) than your average late-night soft porn actress. When they cast “good girl” actress Pamela Sue Martin (not far off from playing “Nancy Drew”), she was playing against type. Yeah, she was playing the rotten spoiled rich brat, but she was also very intelligent and very hot. This new actress is just 100% bitch with no likeability, whose vagina is apparently called MLK, Jr. Boulevard, with her penchant for Mandingoes. That may have been shocking 35 years ago, it’s just clichéd and stupid now.
Flaming gay guys... boring.
Cristal, said with the overpronunciation “CREEEEES-Sttalll”, no doubt. She’s hotter and more likeable than this Fallon, but playing opposite a wooden and dead-eyed Grant Show isn’t going to work.
You have to be able to like the characters for it to be successful, and there’s nothing much to like here. No “guilty pleasure” here.
Unfortunately, the Dallas sequel suffered from similar problems with recasting of the next generation. They just were boring or forgettable and couldn’t match up to the prior generation. When they left with a cliffhanger (Christopher Ewing getting blown up), nobody even cared. Contrast that with 1980 when the country was going nuts over “Who Shot J.R. ?” You couldn’t recreate that today.
I like Grant Show but he hardly seems like an oil tycoon in this trailer, more like a restaurant manager banging one his waitresses. He did pronounce “Cristal” normally.
I thought the exact same thing when I saw that old dude from the OC! “Why isn’t he Blake?”.
LMAO @ MLK BLVD Comment! I agree with your observations. When I saw the pilot of Dynasty, Fallon was mesmerizing, this chick? I watched one ep of the Leary show, she seems like she’s playing the same character, practically (trashy rock n roll chick).
On the New Dallas, Christopher was boring as hell, if they’d killed him off sooner maybe they wouldn’t have been cancelled, John Ross was ok, oh well.
The banging of the next wife on the desk is out of character for both and just plain cheap and trashy (and not in a good way). Krystal/Cristal is supposed to be the stabilizing force, not a desk-banging slut.
I would toss out everyone and start from scratch. Make Steven straight. Why ? Because THAT’s edgy today. Make him a Conservative, too. Because that is also edgy and unique.
As for Fallon, might be better making two daughters. One legitimate, the other illegitimate and “foreign” from Blake’s days surveying the Middle East. Sofia Boutella would be fantastic as that daughter. The French accent explained by being raised and brought up in France or Algeria and away from the family. She’s harboring dark secrets and epic-level resentment for the rest of the family.
Make the legit daughter (Fallon or rename her after a town not in Nevada) like a Kennedy kid: batshit crazy behind a veneer of reserve and even innocence. Make her bisexual, with a preference for seducing young attractive women who are straight, even if she has to drug or blackmail them to get them in her bed. Cast someone like Olivia Wilde or even Rooney Mara, who while not conventionally beautiful, has a mesmerizing and intense persona when unleashed. Make an intense rivalry between the half-sisters, perhaps even more. If you’re going to go trashy and degenerate, go whole hog.
As for John Ross on “Dallas”, he acted way too bitchy and always pissed off/scowling. Utterly charmless and I couldn’t see one iota of his dad within him. Terrible casting. The only one who showed some promise were a few of the actresses, Cliff’s daughter and the deranged one that was the daughter of Bobby’s third and present wife (except for Jordana Brewster, she just wasn’t right).

Emma Bell. Cutie. She was my favorite one on there. I saw her in some movie “Frozen” her and 2 guys trapped on a ski lift.
Never really had a crush on any of the three girls. Jordana might’ve come closest to “my type”, but she frequently comes off as too severe looking and appeared borderline emaciated on the show (and this coming from someone who really likes petite types). She’s since become a mother to two kids, but did not birth either (perhaps health issues).
Julie Gonzalo looked like she lost a boxing match with her unattractive nose and nasty scar between her eyebrows. Emma Bell was just OK, though the derangement was a nice touch and added allure to her what I consider average looks.
