He can go on TV in a week and tell his people that they successfully wiped out half the USA. They can show pictures of Detroit, show video clips of missiles flying, etc.
His people (outside his military of course) will never know the difference, and he can be their hero of the day.
His people outside his military are merely walking dead.
It's the military he should be concerned about.
