We may recall Christ who fasted for 40 days. Or the acetic hermits who deprived themselves in order to help their understanding of spirituality. This is not what muslims mean by "fasting".
The Ramadan "fast" is of a mere few hours, followed each evening by a lavish feast of gluttony, a veritable "pig out" and food frenzy at the end of each day. There is no true denial in Ramadan. A few hours of not eating is merely a means to heighten the sensory thrill of the nightly feed trough at the swinery.
