Speaking at a Rotary Club gathering in Kentucky on Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vented about how President Donald Trump's lack of political experience has led to him setting “excessive expectations” for legislative priorities.
McConnell, R-Ky., told the group in Florence that he found it “extremely irritating” that Congress has earned the reputation of not accomplishing anything.
“Part of the reason I think that the storyline is that we haven’t done much is because, in part, the president and others have set these early timelines about things need to be done by a certain point,” said McConnell, a Republican and the state’s senior senator.
Trump, a political newcomer, as McConnell noted, has a habit of declaring progress on major priorities that do not necessarily reflect the reality of lawmaking.
For example, as the House was in the midst of negotiations about its Obamacare replacement bill in February, Trump announced that Congress was in the “final stages” of its bill and said it would be ready for “submitting” in March. While the House bill was unveiled in March, that chamber didn’t vote on it until May, and health care votes continued until the end of July.
That sort of disconnect has led to Trump’s expressing disappointment when bills — chief among them health care reform — fail to end up on his desk, even though, as with health care, the political reality indicated all along how difficult it was going to be to pass legislation.

It is trying when someone comes along and requires a day's work for a day's pay when you've been loafing for so long.
A real accomplishment would be if Mitch decided not to come back from vacation and kick back in retirement. I don’t expect any such gift, however. He has to continue to be a major obstacle to much of the Administration’s agenda.
What a pathetic losah turd-le ...
I seem to recall Newt’s contract with America. They accomplished a lot in just 100 days.
If its too much work, resign, you damned old RINO!!
Dear Senator McConnell, the GOP promised to repeal Zero-Care and substantially lower income taxes....for years and years
at least get those two things done...please!
otherwise, frankly, there’s no point in supporting or voting GOP anymore
How can we expect Congress critters to act with the speed and decisiveness of a google, facebook, IBM or Real Estate deal?
McConnell, McCain and others have been there for decades now. Can they be expected to suddenly change their stripes?
A government run like this early on in our Republic would have ended the country as we know it. The future is looking just as bleak.
Well, it took Moses 40 years to wander through the desert, so maybe Mitch just needs a GPS to wander in a straight line.
What a whiny little bitch.
Do not necessarily reflect the reality of lawmaking.
Translation: He won’t take bribes and intends to do what he said not a good old boy member we are not amused.
Ed
You expect us to do something?! We’re Republicans!
Mitch didn’t know the count before he took to vote on the healthcare. If he knew three were not going to vote he shouldn’t have taken the vote. Or Mitch wanted it to fail. What a sniveling embarrassment this man is.
Worst Majority Leader in history. And the laziest, and the most dishonest (promised to repeal obamacare). This is his legacy.
At this point MITCH if the only thing Trump accomplishes is the repeal of the 17th Ammendment and turn the selection of Senate back to state legislators you and the wifey can retire to your blue grass farm and vegitate while you slowly rotate...
It is not just the POTUS who has these expectations, it is all of America. Congress deserves their reputation of being “slow walkers.” When has any of the investigative committees ever resulted in or produced an indictment??
I think name calling is a poor excuse for a reasoned argument but............in a slam dunk contest it is okay to call Mitch turtle face.
Hey Mitch...the House only worked 8 days in April. Checkmate.
