Coup d'Etat Profond
Steyn Online ^ | 7 Aug 2017 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 08/08/2017 6:52:53 AM PDT by Rummyfan

On this 200th day of the Trump Administration, the 45th presidency is under assault as few legitimately elected governments in free stable nations have ever been. The weapon of choice is, as Jeff Sessions' Justice Department has very belatedly recognized, the leak. There are three kinds of leak:

The first is the palace-intrigue stuff: Spicer loathes Scaramucci, Scaramucci hates Priebus, Priebus despises Bannon, etc.

The second is the drip-drip-drip of the "Russia investigation": Robert Mueller has empaneled a grand jury, he's looking into eight-year-old Trump property deals, he's going to flip Mike Flynn and Paul Manafort...

The third is the full transcripts in American newspapers of Trump's conversations with the Mexican president and the Australian prime minister.

..... you can vote for change all you want, but you ain't gonna get any. And that leads nowhere good.

Are we going to fight or are we going to knuckle-under to tyranny? The people who founded this country would already be in rebellion.

Great Steyn article. Thanks for posting. The two closing paragraphs sum it all up:

From November to January we had three months of blather about the "peaceful transfer of power", but that is in fact precisely what the losers have denied the winners: Instead, they weaponized the transfer. Do you think, after last week, the Aussies regard this as a normal "transfer of power"? What we are witnessing is a slow-motion coup against a duly elected government by people determined to use whatever they have to hand - national-security leaks by the permanent bureaucracy, money-no-object fishing expeditions by hopelessly conflicted prosecutors, domestic surveillance of political opponents by Obama officials, and indifference to most of the preceding by a GOP congressional leadership that has no interest in seeing Trumpism succeed.

If they prevail, they will be teaching the electorate a very dangerous lesson: you can vote for change all you want, but you ain't gonna get any. And that leads nowhere good.

Historically speaking, the level of change that we want from Trump, switching from globalism to nationalism, is usually predicated on and requires a Civil War and not politics or elections. We are past the point of a political solution fixing out issues but Americans being Americans nobody wants to take the first shot.

How to fight? As Steyn points out (and you quoted his last line), this coup is so firmly embedded in the deep state that it is becoming clear that it cannot be rooted out.

The ballot box clearly does not work against the too-big, too-powerful, too-rich deep state.

Republicans are mostly useless and won’t engage. They are like “moderate” muslims; all too happy to watch the “extremists” murder the innocent infidels and not speak out against it.

Armed rebellion won’t work because of the asymmetry of weapons and intelligence.

An army of insurgents and snipers over the next 40 or 50 years? The US would look like Lebanon or Syria after a decade or two.

The colonials assaulted governors’ houses; tarred and feathered tax and duty collectors working for the British; threw tea into harbors. What are the equivalent acts today?

It’s been said that in the colonies by 1775, one-third were patriot and willing to fight; one-third were loyal to the king; and one-third were neutral and wanted to be left alone. It is amazing that the one-third patriots got things going over a period of ten or twelve years.

Mark Steyn is usually brilliant in his sometimes caustic and often hu.orous thoughts. He needs a national daily mass media forum. Mark Levin kicked him off his self aggrandizing internet tv site.
Was it because he is better than Levin?

Poor Steyn is being destroyed by Michael Mann and the corrupt court systems in the US and Canada. It's no surprise or accident they are out to totally destroy one of the few eloquent opponents of the deep state. To help with his exorbitant legal expenses, he's launched the "The Mark Steyn Club." If his opponents win, I suppose he would face penury or imprisonment. He's paying an awfully high price to be a strong voice against tyranny.

LOL...he posted an artist's rendering of the new clubhouse for the Mark Steyn Club:

He is brilliant and should be as successful as Rush. He takes stronger and more principled stands than Rush who seems to be a bit squishy, probably because he fears the types of suits launched against Steyn.

“If they prevail, they will be teaching the electorate a very dangerous lesson: you can vote for change all you want, but you ain’t gonna get any. And that leads nowhere good.”

And how many times have judges overturned specific legislation, or propositions; which were put on ballots by the electorate, voted on by the electorate, and passed by the electorate? Many times.

The leftists have been doing this for years.

So it should not be surprising that they are trying it here, and thinking that they can get away with it.

You are right...the black robes have been making law for decades and throwing out voter-enacted propositions. No state is more egregious in this regard than California. They are emboldened and are accelerating this. Rule of Law is dead - look at the Obama administration and the favorable treatments all the crooked elites have gotten. Popular Vote Propositions are dead. Our votes for POTUS are dead.

The old U.S. of A. and constitutional government of the people, by the people and for the people is in deep, deep trouble - and probably irrevocably lost.

I think Kelly is going to lock down this leaking. Mueller has to be fired.

The constant turmoil is allowing the enemies of America to make huge gain globally because of inability to staff the government, inability to pass legislation. The enemies seize the moments to push forward virtually unimpeded. From Iran’s boats/plane incidents. Russia/China naval/air incidents and of course the nork butterball going from some scuds and a few nukes to ICBMs and 60 or so nukes at a development speed faster than actual R&D countries. (of course they get their wares from their nuke neighbors). The inability to focus on this front alone leaves the US open for horrible events. Of course that is what the obozo/soros/clintoon machine planned all along. The inability to neutralize the Obama moles/employees/spies/leakers and the left shift of the GOP is leading to an ungovernable mess. Hopefully the military side swing Trump has taken with his closest generals will bear fruit soon.

There’s a fourth kind of leak: the fake kind.

I believe a significant portion of the “palace intrigue” type, and the “drip drip Russian investigation” type are totally made up by the press.

There is really no reason to expect the press to wait for an actual story to happen and find an actual inside source (leaker), when it is so much easier to invent one, and there there is no negative consequences for doing so.

Scruples? Professional ethics? Fear of discovery and loss of reputation? Fear of disciplinary action or dismissal by network owners? If you think that, I have some acres in the middle of Lake Michigan to sell you.

Besides, it’s impossible to prove a story was made-up - you can’t verify it with the so-called anonymous source because the source was made-up too, a fact easily masked by the false pretext of anonymity.

Combine that with the anti-Trump left’s voracious appetite for anything that makes Trump look bad, - that indicates infighting, betrayal of his base, weakness, whatever - makes the ratings greedy and vindictive MSM take a no-holds-barred approach to “journalism”.

There is simply no level they won’t stoop to.

In my opinion, yes he is better. I have listened to both and came to the conclusion that Levin is in love with himself. He[Levin] is a legend in his own mind.
