Is it outlandish to say that the welfare of Americans should come before the welfare of potential immigrants in the actions of the American government?
No. Of course not.
It is reasonable, rational and what almost every other country does without all the name-calling we get from the progressive left in this country.

We should end immigration, period. Until such time as the LEGAL ones that are already here have assimilated into our society.
Every last illegal and their anchor babies should be deported ASAP.
Total Crap!
About 90% of “college educated” immigrants received their degrees from Third World universities that are not accredited by USA employers.
Those immigrants cannot even get a job interview in the USA - one reason being that it is almost impossible to verify a work history or educational credentials from a Third World country.
“We should end immigration, period. Until such time as the LEGAL ones that are already here have assimilated into our society.”
The reason they have not assimilated is political. The Democrats wanted to do away with the melting pot in favor of the salad bowl. They wanted people of distinct groups they could pander to. If whites, blacks and Asians were all the same culture and living together in harmony how do you divide them against each other to achieve power?
A man born in California to Central American parents told me that at age 16, with a childhood spent in California schools, he didn’t speak enough English to have a conversation with the principle. He left school after a school resources cop told him if he got into another fight he’d be going to reform school. He finally was taught English by a Cuban plumber who refused to speak to him in English. (He’s an awesome plumber now.)
We have 324 million people in this country. 94 million are out of work. We don’t need even one more immigrant.
1) Expel *every single* wetback.
2) Restrict *legal* immigration to those who a) have clean past histories b) are fluent in English and c) have a skill that's in *genuinely* short supply.
With a plan like that *everyone* (except,of course, the wetbacks) wins. And the biggest winners are the Americans who are on the lower rungs of the socioeconomic ladder.
We need a ruling on the meaning of the 14th Amendment and how it can be related to the so-called “anchor baby”.
Children born of mothers who are non-citizens and who have no status as legal residents (green card holders) should not be able to have their children considered “natural-born”. The nationality of the child is the same as the nationality of the mother.
This travesty goes back to the days of the importation of Chinese immigrant labor that was used to build the railroads and much of the infrastructure on the West Coast of the United States in the last half of the 19th Century. At the completion of the term of labor, the Chinese were supposed to return to China, and in fact, most did. But a significant number made the round trip several times, and on later trips, brought wives and children. Since there were no formal birth records kept then, or many of the records kept were destroyed, especially in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, there was no proof these children were NOT born on US soil, so citizenship was granted, to avoid the endless lawsuits and turmoil. Thus we have the Chinatowns of various parts of the US, which are simply ethnic transplants from the home region back in China, and have vary rarely assimilated into the wider US melting pot.
The 14th Amendment is WAY overdue for a modern reinterpretation, to get back to the original intent, which was to normalize the status of the former slave population and their descendants, as well as recognizing the native American Indian status. It would not, and should not apply to new immigrants who have no intention of ever becoming naturalized citizens.
30 years ago I met a South American woman who graduated from high school in Newark NJ after years of “bilingual” classes - she was never required to learn English.
As I understand it, immigration at the high end MBAs, business owners, investors, doctors, engineers, etc. are net job creators in the U.S. Magic of capitalism. Of course, we’ve been doing it bass-ackwards for decades for political gain.
I understand that applies to diplomats and other foreigners who are here temporarily. The illegals should also be treated in this manner.
I agree, it is not the old world anymore, a country can be taken over, or divided easily with the amount of immigration that is occurring.
once the world calms down again..(i will believe that when we see it) then maybe it could be revisted to the nations benefit.
