I think they should have the kickoff for the holiday at southside Chicago's glorious Altgeld Gardens Housing Project, wedged between landfills, the sewage treatment plant, and the polluted Calumet River, which a young community organizer named Barack Obama allegedly saved. It has always been a creepy-looking place, but it was renovated a few years ago. Here is part of it today.
