Obama and Bush allowed this to happen.

Remember that.

There are no good options, and not many less bad ones.

Watch the documentary Zero Days.

A documentary focused on Stuxnet, a piece of self-replicating computer malware that the U.S. and Israel unleashed to destroy a key part of an Iranian nuclear facility, and which ultimately spread beyond its intended target.

The most interesting information comes at the end.

1. Most of NK’s arms are pre-historic and will not be touched by EMP.

2. No EMP exists that could take out NK without far more seriously damaging SK that is more technologically advanced as a nation than we are. I know. I have a daughter living there - thankfully way south of Seoul.....out of range of NK’s small missiles.....

How long would you think the North Koreans would be able to contest the airspace over the DMZ? If China and Russia enter on the North’s side, you have something else entirely—WWIII.

Clinton supplied China with the technology to MIRV that they would not have otherwise had for another decade.

Neutron weapons are required to obliterate NK.

If we have none in stock we can get them from Netanyahu.

The artillery is too close to SK for conventional nuclear warhead use... the selectable yield neutron devices are perfect.

Massive surveillance has undoubtedly located all military targets in NK.

The Norks are fools if they think we cannot locate mobile launcher positions...we developed the ability to automatically track metal objects on the ground in Gulf War 1. It was easily done in the desert and NK has so few moving metallic objects that it is quite similar.

Little Kim probably sleeps and works in places that are neutron shielded by hydrogen (plain old water) so that has to be taken into account.

the nation does not have the stomach for a first strike

We can get NK to strike first by simply starting an evacuation of Seoul.

Doesn’t take much to bring down a heavily loaded C-130. You don’t even necessarily need aircraft — a MANPAD can do it. We’re not fighting in a sandbox like the Gulf Wars 1 & 2. Korea has seriously rugged terrain, especially in the areas where the Norks tuck their high value assets. AAA & Stingers/Strella’s can literally be anywhere.

How long would you think the North Koreans would be able to contest the airspace over the DMZ?

IMO, unless you count falling to Earth in flames and / or little pieces as "contesting the airspace", the Norks can't contest it at all. The US plus the South Koreans* (and even the Japanese given a short time to get there) can put a pretty incredible armada in the airspace over and near the DMZ.

*Many FReepers are apparently oblivious to the fact that while South Korea should do more, it spends over 3.5x on defense what the Norks do, and the South Koreans are pretty good...

Every informed analysis I have seen says that a conventional Nork attack (countered by a conventional defense) cannot decimate Seoul and the nearby area. At worst we are looking at a few thousand killed in Seoul, and, oh, just a wild guesstimate, $10 billion in damages. I've not seen estimates of Allied military losses, so I'll speculate on another few thousand killed or wounded, and $50 billion in damaged or destroyed Allied military assets.

I don't mean to say these numbers, especially the lives, are insignificant, but they do NOT represent "severe" losses to the South / Allies.

The North "could" launch a large scale ground attack, but this would be detected and countered well in advance, unless the Allies are totally asleep at the wheel. (The defense casualties and especially the costs would go up in the event of a major Nork land attack, but we are still not talking about catastrophic losses.)

Of course, given a large scale chem / bio or nuke surprise attack on Seoul, matters could be far worse. However, North Korea would effectively be reduced to ashes in an hour. One would HOPE our and SK's intelligence would have a clue...

Backing up to that map of hardened Nork sites "close" to Seoul... It may look impressive, but what it REALLY shows is that the Allies can probably put an attack aircraft "on" each of those sites that can actually hit Seoul, 24/7. Even if attack aircraft run short, the Allied forces also have a large number of surveillance aircraft at their disposal, which is just about as bad (for the Norks). Can you say "INCOMING!!!"?

Give em a 48 hour ultimatum.
1. Release all USA Prisoners
2. Return the USS Pueblo ship
3. Stop and and all rocket developement
4. Pull back all artillery 40 miles from the DMZ.

Failure to do these things will mean Trump will go to congress and seek a declaration of War.

While waiting an iron blocade will be places on North Korea enforced by Submarines. Also Trump should tell South Korea to pull back their population from the border and set up a new Capital in the south. Like Pusan. Next he would set up a call for 75,000 volunteers to serve 18 months in the new Asian War. Wanted Vets—even injured ones—A legless man can fly a war drone. Put the fear of god into North Korea and the left!
