‘If Sessions is compromised then there is no one in DC who is not and you may as well devote your life to non-political issues. It would be easy in today’s world.’s’

I absolutely believe that everyone in DC is compromised. That’s why I was and am such a strong Trump supporter. Without someone fundamentally disconnected from the swamp, there would be no hope.

I used to be a huge, massive Sessions fan. I really believed he was the exception.

The first issue was more strange and perplexing than anything else. To wit, early in the primaries, Sessions said that Cruz had singlehandedly stopped amnesty.

What a statement. It was 100% false...but it came from the unimpeachable Sessions. Amazing.

Cruz supporters used that quote to cudgel Trump supporters mercilessly. Any recourse to the facts was met with, ‘Are you calling Sessions a liar?’

It was no-win for anyone with a commitment to the truth.

Sessions eventually conceded the statement was false. But it took him long enough. I didn’t see him quite the same after that.

Next came outright lying on his security clearance application. Just straight up lying. I suppose he thought the truth would never come to light. He had discussed the Trump campaign with the Russian ambassador (twice), but said he hadn’t. Who would out him? Not the ambassador, and no one else knew.

Makes Sessions look like he just fell off the turnip truck. Of course the ambassador reported the information he had obtained from Sessions to the Kremlin. Of course the NSA recorded that call. And of course the Deep State revealed their recording/transcript at the moment it would harm Trump most.

To ask me now, after I learned all that, to put Sessions on a pedestal is asking too much. The Cruz fiction was sufficiently unsettling, but lying on a security clearance application is an entirely different matter. The rank and file isn’t supposed to do it, but I guess if your name is Sessions you get a pass.

Trump didn’t get a pass, though. He is reaping what Sessions sowed. That’s not right. Sessions should never have done this to Trump. It’s the last thing he needed.

All competent legal authority says that Sessions had to recuse himself: Guiliani, Derzowitz, Napolitano.

He had nothing to discuss with the ambassador and, like all Senators, was relating to the ambassador of a powerful nation.

This Nothing-burger has little or nothing to do with his actions. it is completely a creation of the democratmedia as would have been any number of innocuous, innocent meetings had it been necessary.

I guess you didn’t read my post. Sessions discussed the Trump campaign with the Russian ambassador. Then Jeff LIED on his security clearance application and said such a discussion hadn’t taken place. But a call documenting that a full report of that discussion had been intercepted by the NSA. It was leaked at the exact time when it would harm Trump most.

Of course Sessions had to recuse himself. He made certain of it by discussing the Trump campaign with the Russian ambassador. Had Sessions told the truth about this discussion to Trump and on his security clearance application, Trump could have been spared the Mueller disaster. But Sessions opted to lie. Shame on Jeff.

I read your speculations about what was discussed and what not according to the leaks’ charges.

“How is your candidate’s campaign doing, Senator?” “Things are going well, Mr. Ambassador?” Does not qualify as any significant conversation and requires little or no notification to anyone including one requiring forms designed to entrap those filing them out if desired.

Now “Mr. Ambassador, I would like to get some help for Mr. Trump. Can you get some rubles and borsch from Vlad?” Such nonexistent conversations should spark concern.

To be clear, I have no speculations as to what particular aspects of the Trump campaign Loose Lips Jeff discussed with the Russian ambassador. All I know is that when the leak appeared, and Sessions understood that the contents of the discussion had been relayed to the Kremlin (and recorded), he recused himself immediately.

So either Jeff recused himself without necessity, hanging Trump out to dry, OR he recalled enough of the conversation to know that recusal was absolutely required. Neither case speaks well of him.
