The Trump team seems to have four factions: nationalists like Bannon and Sessions, foreign policy realists like Tillerson and Mattis, establishmentarians like McMaster and (until recently) Priebus, and liberals from his own family (Ivanka and Jared).

Trump's Presidency would be a great one if he only had the ear of the first two of the four, but that isn't going to happen.

His Dereliction of Duty book is a condemnation of Vietnam era establishmentarians in both politics and the military. I see no evidence that he decided to become one. Just a lot of rumors coming from unnamed sources.
