I looked back and McMaster was one of the first politicians to endorse Trump. I believe he was Lt. Gov. from South Carolina at the time. He’s a smart guy and may have thought it the best way to get into a Trump administration.

That is a different McMaster. He took over as SC Governor when Haley got the UN gig.

I hate to inform you but LTG H.R. McMaster has never been Lt. Gov. of South Carolina or any other state. He is a career Army officer.

Wrong McMaster. The snake in Trump’s woodpile is Herbert Raymond McMaster, not Henry McMaster (who really is a good guy). HR McMaster never supported Trump and was hired in a hurry after Flynn was fired. Many good candidates did not want to accept the position during the firestorm that followed Flynn’s exit as National Security Advisor.
