After watching Arafat’s funeral some time ago, I came to the realization that the Palestinians lack the political maturity necessary to run a modern state. Many other existing states do as well. I define political maturity as embracing non-violence as a way of life, the rule of law, respect for private property and the recognition of the primacy of the self, and acceptance of the principle of the “loyal opposition.”
