Their aim now it to discredit Trump enought that Republicans will lose in the midterms, and then the Democrats can impeach him. They’re not stupid, they’re saying this crap for a reason, even though it won’t work.
If they succeed in removing Trump from office, or even “neutering” him as a President, they have completed the destruction of the Constitutional Republic. The will of the people, expressed in the electoral process, is irrelevant.
