SMU is a private school and it has the right to exercise controls on political, social and religious displays on campus.

But, following the rules enforced by the left, if they accept even one penny of federal money either directly or indirectly through student aid, they have to follow a stack of federal regulations taller than the Empire State Building.

Just imagine if SMU decided to reduce the number of female sports scholarships to one less than the number of male scholarships they would have hundreds of lawyers suing based on Title IX. The only way to avoid these laws is to go the way of Hillsdale College.

I don’t think there is a federal law against a private school, or even a public school, from controlling political speech on campus.

A school can establish a free speech zone and they can also prohibit political speech.

Liberty University can prohibit a Pro Abortion group from demonstrating on campus and Reed College can prohibit a White Nationalist group from demonstrating on their campus.
