GOP Sen. John McCain issued a statement Monday saying that he will produce a military strategy for Afghanistan in September, if President Donald Trump has no plan to offer.
While McCain hasn’t yet proposed a solution, his statement indicates his intent to develop a legislative alternative in the absence of an actual plan from the Trump administration regarding U.S. interests in Afghanistan.

Does McCain presume to be more adept at war strategy than the folks who make war and keep the peace for a living? He could not even defeat Barack Obama. Or maybe his strategy was the defeat of the American people who got him shot down and imprisoned and tortured. And maybe I am presuming incorrectly as well.

If his diagnosis is correct, he has little time left to develop anything...somewhat less than a year in the best of cases. Again, if his diagnosis is correct, he would be far better off to retire and take care of the personal business at hand.
