A 4-year-old boy and an 89-year-old man were among 35 people shot across the city from Friday evening to Monday morning, a period that also saw four homicides.
The most recent deaths were the latest of 377 people fatally shot in the city this year, according to data maintained by the Chicago Sun-Times. In all, more than 2,150 people have been shot since the start of the year.
About 5:15 p.m. Friday, the 4-year-old was in the Austin neighborhoods 5200 block of West Kamerling with 28-year-old Nikia Betts and a 19-year-old man when gunfire erupted,(snip)
Betts, who lived in the same neighborhood, was shot in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she died at 5:54 p.m., authorities said. The boy and man were both shot in the arm and taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital.
A man was shot to death about 12:20 a.m. Monday in the Belmont Central neighborhood on the Northwest Side. Ramon Flores, 21, was standing near a porch in the 2400 block of North Meade when another male fired shots from across the street,(snip)

89 year olds are being shot but boy does Chicago have a hell of a ballet company!
Trump should declare martial law and send in the National Guard. If the guard were to shoot 4 thousand people a year it would be less than half of what are being shot by criminals. Plus, with the military the survival rate would be much higher.
I find it beyond tragic that nowhere, in 2 readings, did I find a single mention of identity of either the shooters or the shootees. Why tragic? Becuse it is not necessary at all to mention a single identifying factor of either parties.
Only the AGE and SEX of the victims were written of as all other details must be taken for granted.
Question, do THESE lives MATTER to anyone beyond relatives?
The law of the jungle in certain parts of Chicago is the rule of law.
Must be a great place to live. Or die.
Does nobody get shot in Chicago from Monday to Thursday?
There’s no mention of the shooters because the police probably don’t know . . . other than to blame “the usual suspects.” What with the “no snitch” rule and all, the clearance rate on these sorts of crimes are notoriously low.
Afghanistan War 2001present 1,954
Iraq War 20032011 3,836
Iraq War/Afghanistan Wars US Combat Deaths per day = 2
So in Chicago so far this year
1.8 Killed per day
10 shot per day
So basically Chicago is a war zone but the City of Chicago does nothing to stop the war and will not allow citizens arm themselves for self protect!
35? It seems like just Friday it was only 17....
Saturday and Sunday’s are busy days!

The thing that surprises me is the time of the shootings. Typically the are done after midnight. Not in Chicago. I guess it’s a 24-hour operation.
Nobody cares. Sad.
‘The most recent deaths were the latest of 377 people fatally shot in the city this year . . .”
The “Hey Jackass” site has the total dead by gunfire at 382, with 414 homicides of all type - the papers almost always low-ball that number.
Not my problem. When you vote for leftist corrupt Democrats you get the government you deserve.
Citizens can arm themselves for protection in Chicago. Yes, there are many restrictions on where you can carry, but many of those places are the same nationwide.
Lets be honest, the vast majority of people who are gunning and getting gunned down are not law abiding citizens.
Here’s the question: WHY are they killing each other in such numbers, in Chicago and all across the nation?
Thanks, I looked up the numbers. There are 200,000 licensed to have a gun in Chicago. I can’t compare to Houston since we don’t need a license for a gun. There is an increase of gun owners in Chicago getting concealed carry, but Houston is way head on that one also. At least some people in Chicago are trying to protect themselves.
