just another gov’t project
remember next time you are at DMV - the DMV employees you see are the best ones.
and now translate that to everyone in gov’t
rant bait for FR’s armchair admirals.
That, sir, is littoral fire support the way it should look.
It can destroy things....
Pocket Battleship? LOL. It has almost no survivability against anything that hits it, a teeny crew means not much damage control manpower, it has nearly no armor, and has no weapons designed for ship to ship warfare. The only antiship rounds were cancelled because they cost 800 bucks a pop.
But yeah, other than that its a pocket battleship.
A submarine can power a small city.
LOL
It looks like it might have submarine capabilities in high seas.
” Designed in part to support amphibious landings by the U.S. Marine Corps, the Zumwalts were meant to make up for the lack of big-gun firepower caused by the retirement of the Iowa-class destroyers.”
Yeah, losing those Iowa class destroyers was a blow. /s
And yeah, losing an 80s update Iowa BB meant losing 9 sixteen inch rifles and 12 five inch 38s guns. So how does the Navy replace that? With a gee whiz electric gizmo stealth ship carrying two 155 guns. The Marines already have 155mm.
Bottom line, the navy has decided the USMC does not need fire support. They were forced to pay lip service to it by congress and that’s what they did.
It doesn’t carry a rail gun. Just two 155mm.
Hmmmm....I don't see any howitzers on that thing...
Yet!
That’s 800k a pop of course!
Well yeah, they are kind of expensive but really accurate... I mean, we don't really want to hurt anybody../s
Been past the Bath Iron Works five times lately and I’m going to the nearby Maritime Museum in a couple of days.
Envy is in order, but I won’t gloat.
In November 2016 the USN announced that it was abandoning the LRLAP round as its cost had soared to $800,000 to $1 million US per round. A total of 90 rounds had been purchased as of this date primarily for evaluation testing. As AGS was designed specifically for the LRLAP and cannot use any other munition, this basically means that the 155 mm guns on these ships are useless until an alternative round can be developed, probably many years in the future.
So, has spiffy guns with no ammo?
boy this guy Don’t Know Jack ship about shit about ship... Iowa-class Destroyers ?
and I’m assuming he thinks it’s being derogatory to call the Zumwalt “pocket battleships”
Hmmm...Doesn’t even have a machine gun...
TARBUS ships Technically advanced but practically useless.
