Dems wonder: Could we convince Collins, Murkowski, and/or McCain to switch parties?

But a sitting Democratic senator, speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of upsetting Schumer on such a sensitive issue, said, “I’m just certain Chuck is already thinking about this – reaching out to McCain and Collins and Murkowski and others and asking if they really want to stand with the GOP. Do they really want to call themselves Republicans at a time when a Republican President and the party’s leaders in Congress are doing such damage to the party – and to the country?”…

What could change the equation, he said, would be a campaign by Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell or Trump to punish or publicly humiliate the three rebel senators for their health-care votes last week. “I can imagine that if McConnell tries to punish McCain, or if Trump really starts to go after him, there’s always a chance that McCain could say ‘screw you’ and bolt.”

They aren’t the only three bad actors, unfortunately. A bunch of the other GOP senators were assured it would fail so were free to vote in a way that would trick their constituents.

Why would they need to. They get an idea of Republican ideas through them and allow them to poison the Republican ranks.

Aw, c’mon, Dems. Isn’t it more fun to have your Manchurian Candidates in place when you need them?

The Democrats would very much want to get 3 Republicans to switch. Then, Trump could not fill any more vacancies in the courts or otherwise, without their approval.

I would prefer McCain be kicked out of the Republican party, it’s absolutely outrageous that the Republican party would allow Democrap operatives like McCain, Ryan, Romney to pose as Republicans. Sometimes I wonder if all of them are.

Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords switched parties to give the Democrats a majority. He expected to reap the rewards of being affiliated with the party in power. The Democrats only maintained that majority for 18 mos, however. Then Jim Talent won a special election and put the GOP back in power.

No current Republican is going to pull a Jeffords. The Democrats are too vulnerable in 2018. It’s no fun at all to switch from the party in power to the minority, and no self-serving Unipartier will do it.

I have been wondering why the Dems don’t promise them their committee leadership roles to convince them. I don’t know why murkowski and Collins are Republicans anyway. McCain won’t switch because he likes his shock-jock role, getting his name in the news for defying his party and campaign promises. They would certainly have more power as Democrats.
