Tensions between Moscow and the pro-EU government of Moldova have been rising for several years as Russia has increased its interference in the internal affairs of the former Soviet republic. In 2015, 20% of the Moldovan treasury disappeared in a massive bank fraud in the poorest country of Europe. Many fingers pointed to the Russian security services and some analysts allege the funds were traced back to Russia.
The Prime Ministers government has been pushing to move closer to the European Union and away from the orbit of Moscow. The Kremlin seems determined to prevent this from happening.
After the theft, the presidency was swung to pro-Moscow forces as Igor Doyon was sworn in. His first trip abroad was to visit Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Moldova. Best little country nobody visits. They have the grave misfortune of the River Dniester. Cross that and it’s flat open terrain to Moscow— hence Russia’s fascination with armored warfare, and their desire to keep the Eastern third of the country under foot.
Putin spent his 50th birthday in Moldova. Made world famous great red wines in the champagne method before WW1. Still have the world’s most unique wine cellars.

Time for Romania to occupy the rest of the country to maintain its freedom from further Russian invasion. Moldova would join NATO given the chance.
Moldovia would let itself be carried under most any nations wings..it’s so poor it makes other poor nations look wealthy.
