"You think that if you don't fight back then maybe they'll like you, stop picking on you, calling you a freak. Well, here's what it is. They don't like you. They don't dislike you. They're afraid of you. You're different. Sooner or later different scares people. Victim or not; make a decision." The Accountant, 2016
The above words are from the film, The Accountant, spoken by the father of the main character, a brilliant man who as a child was diagnosed with Asperger's, a high-functioning form of autism. The father is a career military man, a Colonel who, rather than treat the boy as disabled, trains him to confront his social demons and to deal with the world as it is. The boy is bullied at school, of course, and the quote launches a flashback to when the boy is about twelve. The father takes him and his younger brother to a meet where a group of other boys are planning to beat him, and gives the little speech at top before his son gets out of the car to confront the bullies. But the boy is prepared. His father has trained him well; the training has been brutal and effective.
The fathers admonition perfectly describes President Trump's place in the DC establishment since winning the election. They don't like him. They are afraid of him. He's different and different scares them. He does not think like them, operate like them, or play by their rules. So they want to take him out. They are the bullies, our beltway politicos and the media. Trump is not afraid of bullies. The quote is also a prescription for and an explanation of how Trump is dealing with his place in that world.....

I tend to agree with the use of the movie (the Accountant) as a good explanation. One needs to view the movie to grasp this angle.
Since the 1960s....we’ve tended to vote on the national leadership as some mouth-piece (through the GOP or the Democratic Party). The guy or gal was a ‘brand-name’ and the public felt good with that brand (like a guy buying a Ford).
I think the internet age, social media, and fake news environment changed the whole brand-name thing. The public finally said...you know....let’s go and get a real brand-name outside of the norm. No one in the news media could conceive that so many of the public would go this direction (even the GOP leadership).
I don’t think it’s over. ‘Kid Rock’ is in the running in Michigan and I think his brand-name gimmick would work there. I think Bret Favre could appear in Wis, and mount an easy run for Senator. I could easily envision Kanye West running for a California Senator seat.
Both parties have created such a fake politics atmosphere...that no one has a problem with real fake candidates running for office now. And let’s be honest...being a Senator is such a loser-type position...you don’t need any real job skills. McCain and McConnell have proven this.
Trump is different. He is the cureative fix to a parasite fatigued host. The fleas, lice, and life sucking pests are afraid.
They release such toxins as they die, however.
Yeah I’m weird. You don’t like it? Tough....
However I do believe in a God heart. He knows what to tolerate and when and how, and likewise to call an end to toleration. Because He knows why.
It is not petty slights we should care about, but wholesale assaults on the love of God.

Of particular interest, The Accountant was produced by Stephen Mnuchin
I disagree. Congress certainly doesn't like the President. But they're not afraid of him and they don't respect him.
Trump is different...true, he is going to be Reagan for this century...Drain the swamp....
It works both ways. The establishment status quo scares the hell out of me.
I agree and I love that you used the movie “The Accountant” which has become one of my favorites. I probably would never have watched it (who gets excited about a movie about an accountant) except for the fact that my daughter was the stunt double for Anna Kendrick. She told me that this was going to be a very good movie (plus I love seeing her credits at the end) so I watched it (several times). Trump is so different than anything they’ve seen before that the media, Democrats and Republicans don’t know what to do, and that is what they fear. They’re so used to the status quo and going whatever direction the winds of Washington blow that they now find themselves adrift.
