Forty-five senators, including one Republican, are urging Defense Secretary James Mattis to advise President Trump against implementing a ban on transgender troops he announced this week on Twitter.
We strongly oppose this policy change and urge you to advise the president against it, the senators wrote in a letter to Mattis on Friday. This announcement contradicts existing Defense Department policies, undermines our military readiness and puts our transgender service members as well as their commanders in an impossible situation.
The letter was organized by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), who has promised to introduce legislation blocking the president from implementing the ban.
All signatories are Democrats except for one moderate Republican Sen. Susan Collins (Maine).
On Wednesday, Trump announced on Twitter that he would ban transgender people from serving in the military. A day later, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford advised the military that the Pentagon will not take any action until Trump sends over an official directive.
In their letter, the senators said they appreciate Dunfords announcement.
But, they added, Mattis should also at a minimum make sure no one is discharged until the six-month policy review he originally promised is complete.
At the end of June, Mattis said he would undertake a review of the Pentagons transgender policy after he delayed allowing transgender recruits to enlist for six months.
We further write to request that, at a minimum, you do not separate any service member due to the persons gender identity until you have completed the assessment that you announced on June 30, have reported back to Congress about any challenges that you foresee in the accession and retention of transgender troops, and determined the department is unable to mitigate these challenges, the senators wrote.
The senators added that there have been no reports of issues since June 2016, when transgender troops were allowed to begin serving openly.
Kicking them out of the military, the senators argued, would be cruel and discriminatory, harm readiness by requiring the military to replace them and hurt morale by having their colleagues see them discharged for their identities.
Any American who wants to serve and meets the standards should be allowed to serve our country, they wrote. Transgender service members are serving with honor and distinction today and we ask that you, as our secretary of Defense, assure them that their service will not be ended simply because of who they are.
Talk about bass-awards. Somebody needs to ask all those senators if they would be willing to chip in to pay for all the sexual reassignment surgeries.
Everyone needs to read this if common sense has abandoned them:
>>This announcement contradicts existing Defense Department policies, undermines our military readiness and puts our transgender service members as well as their commanders in an impossible situation.
How many tranny freaks are already in the military??
And the stupid ones expose themselves AGAIN.
Combat is no place for the mentally confused...
Yep, just imagine how much more successful our military would have been on D-Day had transgenders been allowed to land on Omaha Beach.
I,like many Freepers, served in the Armed Forces...6 years total (Active and Reserve) 1969-1975.This was an era when perverts were not tolerated...period.I,for one, never ran into any trouble,pervert-wise...nor did I ever *hear* of any trouble.
It's simply impossible for me to imagine how nauseating, and dispiriting,it would have been to serve along side individuals that I knew to be perverts.
"Good order and discipline"? "Unit cohesion"? With freaks like them around? Don't make me laugh!!!
The letter was organized by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), who has promised to introduce legislation blocking the president from implementing the ban.
Attention whore who knows it won't pass.
I keep hearing this stuff about how Mattis was “blindsided” by Trump, etc.
I see that as more deception by the media.
If you listened to Mattis’s rhetoric leading up to and including his confirmation, on the surface, it might seem plausible, but if you listened to what he said and how he said it, it sounded like a candidate who was saying things in a way to get confirmation.
His mantra thus far has been to make war fighting the primary mission. And anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see Transgenders in the military do not contribute in any way to warfighting...they only detract in every single way from it.
I don’t believe the press reports. I believe Mattis was one of the major voices in favor of Trump’s actions. If Mattis resigns...well, I will be wrong. But I don’t think that is going to happen.
The Obama Admin also repeated the Clinton Era sabotage of the military by upping the tempo of military operation while simultaneously cut military budgets to the bone to wear out our soldiers, ships and planes while deferring maintenance and modernization
Our military is cash poor and facing a huge maintained and readiness problem as well as a major morale problem with our troops
We simply cannot afford the high maintenance and low efficiencies of trannies in the military
Anyone who has worked with a tranny knows they are major disruptive force at best
The figure usually quoted for heeshee transgendies in the military is about 250.
The Congress is not without authority in such matters:
To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces
HOWEVER A Congress that gives the President the finger on health care reform is not going to be able to get him to sign a tranny bill.
Among the executive actions I would advise the President in light of the defeat of health care reform: to move illegal aliens receiving Medicaid from the U.S.
“Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) has promised to introduce legislation blocking the president from implementing the ban.”
Like that’s going to pass with a vetoproof majority. Yeah, right.
>>>Forty-five senators, including one Republican<<<
As far as you need to read to know that this is BS . . . like democrats have approved of anything that Trump has done?
Trump needs to be Trump and let the rest of the elitists go pound sand.
He needs to be more concerned about what the common man wants.
Obama never admitted a SINGLE transgendered individual to serve openly. Instead, he left the whole mess to a subsequent administration.
Read the entire policy for yourself:
Once again the enemies and haters of the United States of America out themselves. Not only that, the sons of bitches that put them in office [elected them] can, in my opinion be classified as enemies of and haters of the United States of America.
