It’s time for historians to come out front and center. What was the original intent of the writers of the Constitution. Remember it took 8 years to complete as the writers argued abut almost everything. But the result was, and is magnificent. A document for the ages.
From what I have read, the original intent regarding passing legislation was for a simple majority. The Constitutional Convention negotiations were clear that legislation required a simple majority, and treaties and vetoes required 2/3rds.
These current “filibuster” rules added at a much later date, much later. Rules can go away just as they came.
The failed Obamacare repeal showed clearly that the Republicans cannot pass anything important even with a simple majority.
“Rules can go away just as they came.”
YES!!! It’s not rocket science! It’s already been done, for the Gorsuch nomination. Did that result in “nuclear war”?
To Mitch McConnell: “Don’t just do something, STAND THERE!”
Geez!
It sounds like you are onto something that makes sense. But where did the 60 vote rule come in? 2/3’s would be 67 votes.
And originally US Senators were elected by their State legislatures, not popular vote .... the current, corrupt method ...
