Wells Fargo will give refunds to more than 570,000 auto loan customers who were also charged for auto insurance without their knowledge.
The bank said in August it will begin sending letters and refund checks to customers, most of whom already had insurance of their own, and some who had their cars repossessed, in part, because of the practice. Wells Fargo will make $80 million in payments -- $64 million in cash and $16 million in account adjustments -- the bank said Thursday.

More stealing by the banks. But, hey as long as they pour millions into the politic races, they are untouchable. $80 million? They’ll write that out of petty cash.
A bit over $140 per; many would not even notice. And the liars- I mean lawyers will get a third of it!
$140.35 evenly disbursed. That has to mean lots of people caught it right off.
Just a guess. They will blame it on computer programming.
What has happened to WF? They’ve turned into a criminal entity.
Seems to me if your account is accurate, the company knew the situation and did nothing to rectify the error.
I would think WF would be subject to RICO criminal charges by this point.
A few years ago, my house burned to the ground. We cleared the entire burned out structure and the foundation.
WF insisted that I maintain insurance in the structure and bought an unsueavr pol Cut fie a structure that did not exist.
I quit banking doing biz at that corrupt bank years ago. Wells Fargo just sucks.
Not really. Easy to slip in with all the paperwork you have for a simple auto loan these days.
Wells Fargo should be shut down under RICO statutes.
I just posted the same thing. Of course we both know better. But write a bad check and see what happens.
Not sure what is going on here. I still balance my accounts every month. I would notice a $50 monthly error right away on my checking account. Maybe not so quick on a credit card, but I would catch it.
Kinda late. Executives should be in jail over this.
Of course I could avoid overdraft charges if I went back to balancing my checkbook on paper or using a spreadsheet.
But then why bother with electronic banking?
It seems to me this is fraud, since they know the charges are there and deliberately provide false information about my available balance hoping I'll overdraw the account.
I write one check a month for rent payment. The rest of expenses are done on our debit card, and I check activity on that account at least 3 times a day...
I'm retired. I have nothing else to do...

Wow. I guess it’s business as usual these days.
Wells Fargo is about the sleaziest bank out there. Shocked they survived 2009.
Might be a trail there between Obama / Democrats and Wells Fargo.
