The guy was on PCP. No telling what he was capable of. I have two cousins who are retired LEO.
One was a deputy in Harris County and one in Tarrant County (Texas)
Both have told me about encounters with perps high on PCP. Just hearing the stories are frightening enough.
One of my cousins had to draw his service weapon and shoot a guy high on PCP. He told me the perp didn't even feel the bullets hitting him.
Walt emptied his weapon into the guy and still the guy kept coming. (Bleeding profusely) His last shot finally hit the heart and brought the perp down.
Were it not for that last shot he told me that he had no doubt the perp would have kept advancing.
(This Event Happened back in the 1980's BTW)

PCP AKA Angel Dust makes people think they are strong and they dont feel or acknowledge pain ...

they could shoot him back he would keep on coming etc...where normally he would have gone down and stayed down...

This was a problem years ago where the police got into trouble for shooting a perp a number of times..or beatinbg him too much etc...

the person thinks he is Superman and his body acts that way..

The measure of when the police cross the line is simple:

If the person doing the shooting didn’t have a badge would those same police officers arrest him?

The ONLY thing that matters is: Was the FIRST shot justified? If it was then that shot was intended to kill the Perp. It matters not how many shots followed. Was killing the Perp. justified in these circumstances? if yes then 45 or 145 shot don’t matter.

The author,Jim Higginbotham, who has had decades of LEO experience makes the case that even in the case of lethal hits, the perp has enough time to fire back, and in many cases kill people who were waiting to see the effect of their initial hits on target.

As a civilian, I found this article to be a real eye opener, and while it may be old news to those of you in law enforcement or the military (thank you all for your service), I hope you will take the time to read this article. God forbid any of us should get into a gunfight, but this article could be a lifesaver someday.
