That’s correct. Obama lifted the ban a year before he left office, but had it in place his first 7 years.
It’s only been lifted close to two years.
Obama was trying to create a legacy as a leftist hero because so many leftists were disappointed with his eight years. Black Lies Matter was the most obvious manifestation of that disappointment; instead of paying for their gasoline and rent, Obama’s policies left them behind eight more years’ worth of immigrants that poured into this country unhindered. As his presidency wound down, his peeps realized they’d been had and rioted; in the end, all they could do was withhold their support from his successor (a la Al Gore), and help put a Republican in the White House.
Obama’s legacy won’t be gay/transgender rights; his legacy is and always will be the election of Donald Trump. That is why the left has to fabricate a “stolen election” myth; how will they explain Trump’s defeat of Hillary 100 years from now? He followed the Best President Ever, and beat the Best Woman Ever...
