July 26 (UPI) -- Close to midnight on Sunday, Southaven, Miss., police arrived at the wrong house to serve an arrest warrant and shot a man dead in his own home, according to reports.
Ismael Lopez, 41, was shot dead late Sunday night after he checked to see who was at his front door. But the police were supposed to be across the street to serve an arrest warrant for Samuel Pearman, who was wanted on an assault charge, reported WREG.
"Someone didn't take the time to analyze the address," said Murray Wells, the attorney representing Lopez's family. "This is incredibly tragic and embarrassing to this police department that they can't read house numbers."
DeSoto County Prosecutor John Champion said it was "possible" that police went to the wrong house and confirmed that Lopez's name was not on the warrant.

I suppose it could be that the door had been opened, but some officers were still outside. I imagine the cops outside would be disappointed at being left out of the fun of shooting their guns in action, so they had to resort to shooting through the door.
“Had the man obeyed the police and dropped the gun he would be alive.”
You are so right!
Had the man made the proper decision and lived in a house that was not on the same street as a man with a warrant he would still be alive.
Had the man made the right decision and worked the overnight shift, he would still be alive!
Had the man gone on vacation, on the knight of his murder his would still be alive!
Probably the same reason I have that same feeling.
I agree, but for not being female.
I have no idea what you wrote. None of it made any sense.
So? The police were at his door. Once he opened the door and saw police why did he continue to hold a gun and not drop it? Not too bright.
Oh wow. Gutierrez is gonna be wound up now.
Embarrassing that they can’t read numbers? What a trance response....more embarrassing that they couldn’t execute a warrant without killing somebody
exactly
I don’t buy that story one bit. Is there video of this?
Yes, murder is very embarrassing.
Naw mani it’s just an embarrassing mistake...kind of like a typo..../sarc
Perhaps someone can explain why a law abiding citizen is NOT allowed to answer his door armed, at any time, let alone at midnight with someone banging on your door.
And maybe you could also explain why, in a nation protected by the constitution, why police are allowed to shoot anyone who is deemed to have a gun? Are our rights to be armed not guaranteed by the constitution?
We are now in a terrible time, where if a person is thought to be armed, police are allowed to shoot them on the spot. How are we to exercise our second amendment rights when police are allowed to shoot on sight anyone exercising those rights?
There’s absolutely no excuse for getting a wrong address on a warrant.
Bunch of men? I thought they were the police. If you hold a gun on the police and refuse to drop it the police will probably shoot you.
It is posts like that that make me drink another cup of coffee, and then when I read it again, it is clear that no amount of coffee will make it make sense.
That whole story sounds flaky....
"So? The police were at his door. Once he opened the door and saw police why did he continue to hold a gun and not drop it? Not too bright."
DROP THE BANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANG GUN!!!
Ooops ....
And then the copsuckers show up and try to claim that somehow it's the citizen's fault that the great heroes, the thin blue line, the all-holy 'first responders' murdered him.
BTW, check out the video at HeyJackass! titled "Shoot His Ass". It shows cops actually getting it right.
They shot through the door. Their story is completely made up.
The wife’s story of the events is more believable.
