Yep. Been about 10 degrees hotter than 'normal' for the past couple of weeks. Global Warming, dontcha know.

Heard on the radio on the way to work this morning that there's a cold front coming through. Starting tomorrow, it'll be about 10 degrees cooler than usual, at least for a week or so. That's Global Warming Global Cooling Trump's Fault Climate Change, too, I guess.

Where I grew up, it was "weather".

It’s apparently been hot even for July here in NC for several weeks, and before that we were having very regular thunderstorms almost every afternoon and evening, some violent. The heat seems to have scorched enough moisture out that the thunderstorms have calmed down, not that the humidity is low by any stretch but it’s had an impact. Very calm year for tropical storms on the Atlantic, though, very few “named” storms and I’m OK with that but the farmers probably won’t be, that’s where the bulk of the annual rainfall comes heading into fall, my grandparents called it “the equinox.” Me, I’m hoping that trend holds up at least through mid-August, I’ve booked a cool old beach cottage in the dunes overlooking the Atlantic in Carova Beach, never been there despite living here practically all my life, taking family and the dog, here it is, nothing fancy but seems about perfect for us:

I’m excited, no paved roads at all, drive up the beach to get there. The Banker Ponies aren’t penned, they’re wild and free up there. I guess I’ve avoided it because the water gets cold if you go too far above Hatteras, the Gulf Stream heads out to sea so it’s the Labrador Current on those beaches, August water temps probably in the low 70’s, but heck I’m not going swimming in there anymore anyway, wading at best so why not.
