More fun if you fill a dumpster with them first...

Modern ICE-powered vehicles produce a tiny fraction of the actual pollutants, compared to cars of 30 years or so ago. Levels may be increasing — but, they’re doing so from a very small base (relative to the not-so-distant past).

I suspect that this is nothing more than a high-profile PR move. Most British ‘road trips’ are within the range of an EV. It would be much harder for continent-wide countries, such as the USA and Canada to make a ban on ICE work.

In 2008 around 180,000 people in the UK were directly employed in the UK automotive manufacturing sector.[131] In that year the sector had a turnover of £52.5 billion, generated £26.6 billion of exports and produced around 1.45 million passenger vehicles and 203,000 commercial vehicles.[131] The UK is a major centre for engine manufacturing, and in 2008 around 3.16 million engines were produced in the country.[131] —Wikipedia

Exactly! Especially after Richard Hammond got hurt in an electric!
http://www.roadandtrack.com/motorsports/a10005333/richard-hammond-not-seriously-injured-in-horrific-electric-supercar-crash/

and their new show “Grand Tour”....sorry not as good as “Top Gear” but maybe better in season 2:

I prefer to burn rubber when they’re still on the car. There’s something to be said about the pleasuring sound of chirping tires followed by the deep growl of an engine block.

Two things stand out....why are the EU regulations quoted as a threat, we are leaving and can make our own, 2nd Gove the minister was one of the few sane Pols, now he too has gone to the darkside.

Then of course the whole scheme relies on not yet created technology, as of now it is all based on pure Melon fantasy.....and this is from a Tory gu’mint....tk God I voted UKIP.

If I was still alive in 2040, I guess I would see carts pulled by oxen in England.

The real English people need to “drain the swamp” of the idiots in their Parliament!

I guess Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz will build 99.8% of their cars in the USA. If you ban gas and diesel, you will not be selling them in the USA.

Catalytic converters gave gotten much better. But they need to be replaced when no longer functioning properly.

Also, anyone know: does the UK have low sulfur diesel available for sale? Just the high stuff? If the UK just has the high sulfur stuff for sale, I can see why the latest gen catalytic converters might not be solving the problem for them. In which case, import the low sulfur stuff and/or replace the converters more often.

But bailing on diesel is nuts.

Red Barchetta

My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law
And now on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the turbine freight
To far outside the wire where my
White-haired uncle waits

Jump to the ground as the turbo slows
To cross the borderline
Run like the wind as excitement shivers
Up and down my spine
But down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me
An old machine
For fifty-odd years
To keep it as new
Has been his dearest dream

I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant Red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
We'll fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime

Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge

Well-oiled leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air

Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware

Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air-car
Shoots towards me two lanes wide
Oh, I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase

Ride like the wind
Straining the limits
Of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I've got a desperate plan

At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded
At the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle
At the fireside
