Cards will be on the the table, keep tally of the nay votes as suspects in the Swamp and probable criminals
Dont forget that a lot of these votes he wants are close personal friends of Jeff Sessions.
Politics is a messy business.
Having said that, the Republican's are COWARDS and won't vote to repeal Obamacare. For seven years they had the "safety" of voting to repeal it knowing that Obama would never sign it.
It's easy to be brave when there's no one to call your bluff.
Now that we have a President who'll actually sign the repeal, the Republican's are showing what they truly are: COWARDS. They've always been COWARDS and unless every single one of them is primaried in 2018, they will always be COWARDS.
So again, I'm going on record to say there's NO WAY the Republicans will repeal Obamacare.
The dumb bastards should've been smart enough to let it die on the vine and let that albatross hang around the Democrats necks. It would've been the complete undoing of the Democrat party.
But no, they're too STUPID to have done that.
That makes them not just COWARDS but STUPID COWARDS.
Jeff is now a bargaining chip.
Rand Paul was just on Fox and Friends and he doesn’t sound happy about the bill.
If the Senate GOP won’t vote to even proceed to debate today, they might as well hand the keys to Schumer now and not wait until 2018.
You are right because even if the Senate approves something, it goes back to the House. Ryan will find a way to stab the president in the back.
All 100 Senators should vote yes to move the Obamacare Repeal & Replace bill to open debate and amendment on the Senate floor. Any Senator that votes no on moving the bill to open Senate floor debate, should be soundly defeated in the Mid-Term elections of 2018. End of story.
I expect they’ll vote to move to debate, but they’ll never flat out repeal Obamacare. Not going to happen.
Ryan has already found a way to do that, his name is Robert Mueller.
Obamacare wont be repealed, because it cant be repealed - or, more exactly, it cant be repealed without ushering in huge Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate.
Members of Congress dont know much, but they can count votes like a pimp in a whorehouse can count money.
Yes, the voters hate Obamacare and want it repealed. That is absolutely true.
Its also true that they want the ability to buy insurance for pre-existing conditions, want insurance companies to be forbidden to cancel policies for non-payment, want zero payment at the point of service, want their adult children who are smoking dope in a dive in Oakland to stay covered, want their States to expand Medicaid without taxes going up, and so on.
In other words, the only two things they hate about Obamacare are paying for it, and the name.
Republicans in Congress understand this perfectly well, which is why theres no plan.
And, not coincidentally, Obamacare (and Romneycare) were the culmination of fifty years of reform, all of which had the purpose of destroying the private sector or making it impossible for the private sector to function, except for boob jobs and a few other things. And, by 2009, the mission was largely accomplished.
Obamacare was merely a temporary mop-up operation, until full nationalization was possible.
And now, it is.
Like Nixon to China, Trump will propose single payer within the year. Its really the only way out at this point.
And before you accuse me of favoring it, realize that it will destroy a lifetime of work for me. I dont like it - I hate it.
But its coming, because its what the voters, bless their pointy little heads, want.
Agree, that's exactly what Obamacare was. I think most of us knew it was destined to fail deliberately and destroy healthcare in this country so that people would clamor for single-payer (or what many see as "free healthcare like Canada and Europe".)
Not sure I agree with Trump proposing single-payer by end of year and I hope that's not the case. He has said in the past he favored it though. Who knows at this point.
Excellent post, thanks.
> theyll never flat out repeal Obamacare. Not going to happen.
Yep. I’m expecting “repeal and replace” to turn into “rename and fund”.
The best we can hope for is that they fix some of the operational problems, but not the Constitutionality problems. Health insurance is now a right to be protected by the federal government (paid for with taxes). No matter how much Pelosi complains about what the Rs are doing now, she won. Congressional debates going forward will be how to pay for Obamacare, not if it should exist.
Unfortunately, I’ll probably have to support whatever they do. Repeal is off the table. And Obamacare has to be fixed if it’s not repealed. Hopefully they’ll come up with good fixes.
In McCain's case, he won't be flying that middle finger much longer. Hopefully the good people of Arizona (of which I will become a member soon enough ...) have sense enough to vote in a REAL Conservative once McCain's time on this earth has passed.
Brilliant. And spot on. I can't count how many "rugged individualist" conservatives I've heard call in to local talkshows decrying the "commie" Obamacare laws and demanding a repeal that keeps all of those giveaways.
No signing any continuing resolution until repeal, tax cuts or the wall funding is passed!
Is he still making believe that Obama-care will be repealed by himself with this congress?
The republican legislators made a big show of voting to end Obamacare over the last 7 years because they never really believed there would be a republican president.
Now it is put-up-or-shut-up time and they revert to being the spineless swamp creatures they really are.
Throughout the Obama presidency what we heard from republicans was “repeal Obamacare”.
Now we hear “repeal and replace” because they don’t have the guts to go back to free choice, non government controlled health care.
