German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in a TV interview that though he is irritated about a lot of things happening under US President Donald Trump, he still has hope for the transatlantic relationship.
Steinmeier said in the interview with ZDF on Sunday that there has never been so much uncertainty in the history of the German-American relationship and in the transatlantic relationship as there is at the present moment.
Still, the German President expressed hope that other elements within American politics would continue to keep the relationship intact. [ ]
In Germany, the President is generally expected to show restraint in discussing political opinions. But Steinmeier who became President in March has been outspoken about his views on Trump in the past, saying that he would make foreign relations more difficult and blaming the American leader for division in the United States.

Huh. Kind of a sour Kraut, ain’t he?
How bout we move our military bases from Squirminy to East Prussia you square headed M Effer?
My high school government teacher in the early eighties referred to Germans as the most intelligent stupid people on the planet.
Giving some more thought...I doubt if the East Prussians would want to rejoin that crap hole of a country.
I say that Germany, as a country, splits back into separate countries again soon.
Imagine for a moment the reaction if Trump said he was “irritated” with Germany. Financial markets would be rocked, the Europeans would demand an emergency meeting of NATO, the Media would whine endlessly, there would be a flight of capital out of Europe etc, etc. The cutesy German says it and there is no real world response. Bottom line: The US has the real power.
In 200 years there will be so few ‘Germans’ that the language will die.
The divisions within the United States aren’t the German president’s concern. It’s the division and oppression against native Germans he should be concerned about but isn’t.
Never been more uncertain? I think the relationship between Germany and the US during WWI and WWII was a lot more uncertain!
Kiss our American heinies, Heinie.
I’m sorry herr frank is irritated but it doesn’t matter much since his government’s sold Germany out to the islamonazi mass invasion — Germany’s being sunk
Germany needs to realize that since 1945 they have been a vassal state of the US.
Obama led them to believe they weren’t for a while. Now the bill is due for that.
The recent “history of the German-American relationship” has been little more than the US providing Germany guaranteed peace and security at no cost to itself while allowing German companies to become unimaginably wealthy through unfettered access to our markets in exchange for almost nothing of benefit to the US.
So yeah, that’s changing. And it’s about time.
Don’t be a sauerkraut F-W S.
Ideologically it’s been the other way around, for decades. If the USA were in control over there, there would be no Teutonic dominance of the EU, and we would not have undergone the left-wing subversion of DC, not to mention the UN’s charter would have been based on the US Constitution instead of the USSR’s one. There would also be no “Palestinian” problem in Israel.
