The Trump administration is readying for a crackdown on marijuana users under Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
President Trumps Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety, led by Sessions, is expected to release a report next week that criminal justice reform advocates fear will link marijuana to violent crime and recommend tougher sentences for those caught growing, selling and smoking the plant.
Sessions sent a memo in April updating the U.S. Attorneys Offices and Department of Justice Department (DOJ) component heads on the work of the task force, which he said would be accomplished through various subcommittees. In the memo, Sessions said he has asked for initial recommendations no later than July 27.
Task Force subcommittees will also undertake a review of existing policies in the areas of charging, sentencing, and marijuana to ensure consistency with the Department's overall strategy on reducing violent crime and with Administration goals and priorities, he wrote.
Criminal justice reform advocates fear Sessionss memo signals stricter enforcement is ahead.
The task force revolves around reducing violent crime and Sessions and other DOJ officials have been out there over the last month and explicitly the last couple of weeks talking about how immigration and marijuana increases violent crime, said Inimai Chettiar, director of the Brennan Center's Justice Program.

“More freedom is always better, infinnegan. If you are against the use of cannabis, dont use it.”
Do what thou wilt, eh?
Should there be no laws?
>>Sessionss actions that put Trump in this situation. He should have gone to Trump...It is not the White house responsibility to ask him to come and explain himself.

What a great post in its entirety.
Maybe Deplorables are going to have to start having rallies calling for impeaching Congresss. I know they can’t be impeached, but it is no more “out there” than the Rats calling for DJT’s impeachment, and it would show them support for DJT is stronger than ever.
“And you didnt answer if youve ever smoked pot.”
Geeze, where have you been? I’ve been using cannabis since 2015 for medical reasons: chronic depression & anxiety. I used to take 6 or more big pharma meds a day & now I only take a thyroid medication & small doses of cannabis, usually via homemade edibles or by vaping.
And yes, I have smoked cannabis before.
“You seem more a lying propagandist than ignorant bleeding heart moron.”
As usual you spew ad hominem & rancor—offering nothing to the conversation but RINO talking points like a devout nanny-stater do.
Oh I agree 100%. More freedom is always better than less. Today’s prohibitionists have an irrational preference for the nanny-state.
The tone of the threads has definitely changed. In the early 2000s pot threads were intensely hot flame wars. The general opinions are not so different. Approximately 2001-2002 I kept a list of FReepers according to whether they approved of legalization or rejected it.
The list of those who rejected it never topped 70 whereas the list of those who approved of legalization was nearly 300. Many of those who approved simply stopped posting on these threads because the grew tired of the straw man arguments and vitriolic ad-hominems.
LOL!
Donald Trump on Rush show next hour
It's apparent from your responses that you have no clue how successful organizations operate. So, a problem that is kicked around in the news for more than a month, there was no need for those involved to meet and make a definite team decision how the administration was to handle the problem?
Okay, Lol.
There have been other failures due to poor coordination within the administration and there will continue to be such failures until someone, a better Chief of Staff who shares Trump's policy positions, or Trump himself, starts pulling the team together for strategy sessions and decisions when needed.
“Do what thou wilt, eh?”
LMAO!!! No, not hardly. More like “life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness
“Should there be no laws?”
Another fallacy based question. Read the 10th amendment to the Constitution.
Amendment X Rights Reserved to States or People. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Fedzilla has no Constitutional authority to declare the use, production or ownership of cannabis illegal within any individual state that choses to legalize or otherwise regulate it.
Now if states wanted to openly allow the sale of cannabis from state to state, Fedzilla could constitutionally intervene & shut it down.
See ya, infinnegan. As usual, it’s been fun. Have a nice evening & try to be more creative in your name calling from now on cuz’ frankly, you’re as boring as a 12 year old bully lol.
100% with you, friend.
I'm not sure, but I don't think Trump can fire Mueller. When Nixon wanted to fire special prosecutor Archibald Cox, he had to fire, I think, two DOJ officials before he had one in charge (Robert Bork) who would fire Cox.
I think Rosenstein is the only one who can fire Mueller as is. Trump might have to fire Rosenstein and then, if there is another Trump appointee there who would fire Mueller, have that person fire him.
Otherwise, I guess Session would have to unrecuse, or there would have to be another Trump appointee put in place to do it.
Didn’t Marilyn Quayle once say that “Not everyone demonstrated, dropped out, took drugs, joined in the sexual Revolution”?
It seems that the common thought today is that everybody back in that generation was drug induced and worse. It’s not true! In fact I think when I was in high school it was about about 10% of the students who were stoners and the rest were just regular students who did their homework dressed nicely and were there too further their education and open up College opportunities. Today what the media portrays is an unseemly crowd that really has no aspirations other than to get high and live a parasitical existence. I think that’s a very sad commentary Indeed.
Lol.
You just jump all over the place, not able to even remember what you said.
You stated: “More freedom is always better, infinnegan.”
Most freedom would be no laws at all.
So you agree more freedom is not always better?
You are ok with laws?
Ahhh, the memories. Some of my replies were
rather...heated...back then. I blame global cooling
for my own more recent...protocol adjustments.
Sorry but your intellectual dishonesty (which is regurgitation of new left 60’s propaganda) is front and center in your posts.
And if you’ve smoked marijuana you do know it is not the same as drinking alcohol.
“You just jump all over the place, not able to even remember what you said.
Most freedom would be no laws at all.”
LMAO!!! Now you’re just trolling, poor thing.
Go have yourself another drink & it will all be okkie dokkie.
Just makin' friends wherever you go, huh?
It’s that or I’m LMAO on this side of the screen at some of the replies and just don’t bother with them any longer.
I sure have and I sure do. No contest, alcohol is by far more dangerous in the short term and the long term.
After 17 years the unchanging absurdity of their arguments is too laughable to take seriously anymore.
So you've smoked weed and know the difference.
WHAT? Don't get miffed!
You imply in your reply.
