Now you are confusing me.
There are three reconciliation bills related to Obamacare being discussed/proposed the past two weeks.
The one in 2015 that they passed to Obama wasn't a full repeal but it gutted most of Obama-care.
That's the one they no longer have the votes for, today's breaking news DUHHH!.
Then there are the two Obamacare-lite bills that they couldn't get the votes for.
They are all budget reconciliation bills (requiring only 50 plus Pence).
Easiest prediction I ever made:that nothing looking anything like a repeal will get to Trump's desk under this congress.
I was talking about the reconciliation bill that they “no longer have the votes for.” A real repeal, as I understand it, would need 60 votes.
People who care about SCOTUS? We put two more conservatives on the court and we’ll have a right leaning court for a couple of decades. It’s a bitter pill to swallow to keep these fake conservatives in office for this goal.
Our only choice, short of outright armed rebellion is to Primary them All!!
People that are fed up, hey, Run in a Primary.
“But if it goes to a vote....
the electorate knows who to primary.”
DING DING DING.....YES YES Hallelujah!! Someone on here finally figured it out and that is exactly why the cowards should be forced to vote!!!!
You’re kidding, right? A repeal that doesn’t go into effect for two years! That’s pure Republican B.S.
I’m for a repeal right now. Plus tax reform. Neither of which will happen under current Republican leadership.
But never fear, they’ll soon become the vocal opposition.
Ping
There is nothing in the constitution requiring 60 votes. The only reason there is said requirement, is because the Republican leadership doesn’t want to do anything.
Nothing is better than Obamacare, and that would be my preference.....
Nothing.
Thanks ,I wasnt sure given that there were three to fail in such a short period.
And they failed for different reasons than one another.
One bigger reason that we just saw on display:
They (meaning Trump and McConnell) cant get 50 Senate votes, not for repeal, not for replace and not for changing the rules, but they can count.
No one argues that the 60 rule in Senate came from the constitution so I don't know some keep bringing it up. Its a straw man argument that says nothing.
Why not? That's exactly what has to happen.
the insurance structure was destroyed.
What? It's only paperwork and monetary reserves. Are you saying the money is all gone?
If the gop didn’t have to work around the reconciliation rules they might pass a real repeal of o-care, but the Dems will get at least 56 votes, so the only way to pass real repeal is the nuclear option.
They cant get 50 so they cant change the rules and they cant repass the 2015 bill that gutted O-care that Obama vetoed.
The only way they can pass it is more seats.
Obama had 60 in the Senate and passed the first version Obama signed with all 60, then the second version mods with 57 losing three,
Dems won lots of new seats in 2008, GOP lost seats in 2016 giving them no room for losing Senators.
It might be possible to get 51 votes with a better bill. Within the reconciliation rules, it’s hard to take out the cadillac plan requirements for you, me, and everyone else. I don’t think the senate parliamentarian is going to agree to that without the nuclear option.
Or maybe the GOP senators are simply afraid to repeal o-care.
But it’s the worst *plausible* outcome. If you can think of a worse one please share.
This has to also include Medicaid expansion to pass.
And the Republican states that didn’t expand Medicaid will want some money too.
No doubt many are.
They went home to Town Hall meetings mobbed with plenty from their districts yelling at them about their sick kids etc.
No room for that with 52.
And they don't have near the votes to change those rules.
The companies, networks, and systems are gone.
It is like saying we can “just” go back to one telecom company. The structure of the company and the systems it managed are gone.
I was wondering how you got the 56.
Don’t Dems have 48 now?
