I have been reading Phillip Kerrs novels and his Bernie Gunther series. This was recommended by Daniel Silva who writes the Gabriel Allon series.
Bernie is an ethical policeman in Nazi Germany, who watches as his country gets destroyed by hate. He recounts all the propaganda of the Nazi machine and how they manage to set one group of people against another. He tries to do his job in an increasingly violent atmosphere. He is haunted by what he sees going on and feels powerless to stop it.
I cant help equating what is going on in this country to that time in Germany, when a society destroyed itself and then went on to destroy other countries and their citizens.
I am appalled by all the hateful rhetoric/ incitement of violence being spewed by the left and those on the right who hate President Trump and those who voted for him.
I did not think I would see this in my lifetime-but just turn on CNN/watch the antifa gangs roaming the streets etc and there it is.
Sorry-a bit off topic, but am feeling quite anxious for our country, this President and his family. I probably need to stop reading the books and turn off media for a while.
