Today, what we call liberals are illiberal. A sacrilege of the old ideal of voluntary Christian generosity and philanthropy. The cure for the bad is to re introduce the good.
Traditional liberals exist, but they are cowed by the authoritarian liberals, social justice warriors, who spout the same language of empathy and care that liberals use as the measure of morality while demanding oppression of others.
And because liberals and SJWs share the same general social trait of openness and lack of boundaries, the classic liberals are usually unable to argue against SJW demands for censorship, segregation or mob action against targets - because it is in the name of defending the cry-bully and/or its oppressed group.
